The Wedge Formation is one of the basic offensive military formations used by the many different military commanders throughout the series.
Overview[]
It is a formation in which a unit or army charges in a triangular shape to penetrate enemy defensive lines. Long range attacks can be defended as long heavy troops with shields are not reached.
Strengths & Weaknesses[]
The formation can penetrate enemy's defensive lines can quite easily depending on one's martial strength and valor. They can defend the people inside it like archers in order to decrease the enemy numbers while advancing but a unit cannot attack and defend at the same time. While the formation is strong in the front it's also weak at the sides which makes it easily countered by flanking manouvers.
Story[]
Keiyou Campaign Arc[]
The formation was deployed by the cavalry of the Heki Unit in order to attack the Wei forces of general Kyuu Gen.
Sanyou Campaign Arc[]
This formation was used in by Mou Ten and the Gaku Ka Unit in order to attack Rin Ko Army's defensive lines.
Coalition Invasion Arc[]
Various units of Ka Rin Army deployed this formation in order to penetrate Tou Army's defensive lines but were halted by Tou's Bell Formation.
Conspiracy in the Court Arc[]
The formation was used by Mai Kou against Qin's Subjugation Army. However, it was stopped by the arrival of Hi Shin Unit and their Gouriki formation.
Fire Dragons of Wei Arc[]
The formation was used by the Gyoku Hou Unit's cavalry in order to strike the rear of Earl Shi's personal unit.
State of Ai Arc[]
In the ensuring start of the Hi Shin Unit and Qin reinforcement Armies' opening battle with the Ai Armies, Ka Ryo Ten uses her own variant of the formation to protect the Hi Shin Unit and their allies on the boats. While under heavy arrow fire when the Juuteki soldiers secured the shore before the Qin forces could secure it themselves, Ten hides a group of Archers in order to create a gap in Wa Tegi's defenses in order for Shin to secure a landing zone for the boats to get ashore.
Battle of Eikyuu Arc[]
The Formation was used by the Kyou Kai Unit in order to penetrate the remaining Gaku Haku Kou Army's lines.
Conquest of Han Arc[]
Used by Kan Ou Army in their atempt to break through the encirclement.
