The Sei Kyou Rebellion was a coup d'état led by Prince Sei Kyou in collaboration with Chancellor Ketsu Shi, aiming to overthrow Ei Sei and seize control of the Qin throne. The rebellion directly opposed Ei Sei’s faction, which was backed by Chancellor Ryo Fui and his powerful political faction.
Sei Kyou, believing himself to be the rightful ruler, orchestrated the coup by rallying support from opportunistic nobles and military forces within the royal court. With Ketsu Shi’s political influence and military resources, they launched a surprise attack to capture the palace and eliminate Ei Sei. However, Ei Sei, supported by his allies, managed to counter the coup through the aid of the Yo Tan Wa Army.
Background[]
Following the death of Qin King Sou Jou, the Qin royal court became a political battlefield as various factions vied for control. Ryo Fui, the late king's greatest supporter, led the most influential faction and took charge of the Qin government, as Ei Sei was too young to rule. This power vacuum, coupled with Ryo Fui’s military campaign against Wei, created an opportunity for Sei Kyou to execute his planned coup.
Sei Kyou’s ambition was to kill Ei Sei and assume the throne himself, ending Ryo Fui's control by restoring the power of the royal family under his reign. He gained support from Ketsu Shi, leader of the second most powerful faction, by promising to make him the head of the Qin government once he became king. Together, this alliance sought to overthrow Ei Sei and seize power, but their plot ultimately led to a rebellion.
The leader of the king's faction, Shou Bun Kun, was aware of the scheming by Ketsu Shi and Sei Kyou, and he took precautions to prepare for the possibility of a coup. Anticipating the threat, he set up several secret rendezvous points and hired Ri Hyou, a trusted figure, to serve as a body double for the king. These measures were put in place to safeguard Ei Sei and prevent his capture or assassination, ensuring that the king could be moved to safety if necessary.
Goal[]
Sei Kyou and Ketsu Shi's goal was to overtake the capital through Sei Kyou inheriting the throne following the murder of the king. They planned to kill Ei Sei and every member of his faction in the capital to hide their involvement in the murder of the king. As the new king Sei Kyou could oust Ryo Fui and assemble an army twice Ryo Fui Army's size when he returns from his campaign.
Shou Bun Kun and Ei Sei's goal is for them to flee the capital and defeat Ketsu Shi and Sei Kyou.
Story[]
Ei Sei escapes the capital[]
Shou Bun Kun and Hyou flee the capital with the support of the Shou Bun Kun Army to cover for Ei Sei, who uses the ensuing commotion to slip away undetected. However, Ou Ki anticipates their escape and sets out to chase them down.
Battle at Shouda Hills[]
Shou Bun Kun, having anticipated being pursued, sets up an ambush at Shouda Hills. In turn, Ou Ki also prepares his own trap, and both armies clash atop the hills. During the battle, Ou Ki throws Shou Bun Kun from a cliff. Despite this, Hyou manages to rally Shou Bun Kun's soldiers, and they escape Ou Ki's forces.
Regrouping with Shou Bun Kun[]
After the battle, Ei Sei meets Shin and Ka Ryo Ten. Shin saves Ei Sei from two assassins sent by Ketsu Shi, and they eventually reach a rendezvous point. Meanwhile, Ou Ki hides Shou Bun Kun’s escape by presenting a disfigured head to Shi Shi, claiming it belongs to Shou Bun Kun. Shou Bun Kun, having killed the Qin soldiers following Ei Sei, Shin, and Ka Ryo Ten, arrives at the rendezvous point. Both Shou Bun Kun and Ei Sei know that Ryo Fui will not come to their aid, as he plans to attack the capital once Ketsu Shi and Sei Kyou succeed with their coup. Realizing their only option is to seek help from the Mountain Tribes, they set out for the Mountain King.
Alliance with Yo Tan Wa[]
Ei Sei negotiates with Yo Tan Wa, the Mountain King, who agrees to form an alliance and personally marches with her army to Kanyou.
The Capital's Political Struggle[]
Meanwhile, Sei Kyou and Ketsu Shi assemble an army of 80,000 to face off with Ryo Fui while awaiting confirmation of Ei Sei’s death. However, without the royal seal, which is missing, they are unable to summon additional forces. Ou Ki refuses to hand over Shou Bun Kun's family to Sei Kyou and Ketsu Shi for torture or execution.
The Return of the King[]
Shou Bun Kun, Ei Sei, and Yo Tan Wa devise a plan to infiltrate Kanyou by offering support to Sei Kyou against the Ryo Fui Army. They succeed in entering the royal palace with 50 people, planning to strike at Ketsu Shi and Sei Kyou before they can discover their plot. At an inner gate, the Mountain people are asked to leave their weapons behind, after which they launch an attack on the Qin soldiers. Shi Shi, suspecting something, has prepared defenses, but by using Ei Sei as bait, Shin, Heki, Ka Ryo Ten, and Bajio manage to sneak past the defenses. Together, they defeat Sa Ji and Rankai. In the end, Sei Kyou is captured, and Ketsu Shi is killed. After speaking with Ei Sei, Ou Ki withdraws from the capital.
Aftermath[]
Ei Sei defeats the rebellion led by Sei Kyou and his faction, ultimately securing control. In the aftermath, Ei Sei forms an alliance with Yo Tan Wa and her Mountain Tribe, strengthening his position. As a result, both the Ei Sei and Sei Kyou factions are significantly weakened. As a reward for his loyalty and efforts, Shin is granted land.
