“ | Funny. I know, I get it. Even if I talked right now, no one would say a thing. I have no reason not to. We used to be bandits. We've never had pride to begin with. Nor do we know anything of loyalty...Betrayal is our bread and butter. That's the Kan Ki Army. If Kan Ki was here...He'd say to hurry up and spit it out already...and let out a hearty laugh. That's the kind of guy he is. And that's exactly why I won't tell you a Goddamn thing! Ko Chou! | ” |
—Rai Do refusing to tell anything to Ko Chou and his torturers. |
Rai Do was an ex-bandit leader from the state of Qin serving in the Kan Ki Army and the leader of its Rai Do Clan as one of Kan Ki's right hands and the 1st commander of the army. He was one of its oldest members since their days as a bandit group. He would later become a General of the Qin Military after being promoted from a commander with Kan Ki's promotion to a Great General and member of the Six Great Generals before the Battle of Eikyuu.
After decades fighting for Kan Ki, Rai Do met his end after being captured by Zhao Great General Ko Chou to give them any information on Kan Ki's plans but was tortured to death for his refusal. In response to his death, Kan Ki ordered his soldiers to behead and burn the heads of over 100,000 captured Zhao soldiers in memoriam for Rai Do's loyalty.
Appearance[]
Rai Do was a giant man with a solid muscle body and was the tallest of Kan Ki's commanders. Like other ex-bandits, he has a tattoo of which was a circle shape on his left eye. He also had a shaved and short hair with a stern face that was quite expressive. His head looked like a baseball, as said by Yasuhisa Hara, supported by the fact that he had absolutely no eyebrows. He wore fur as cover for his wrist and round his neck with standard armor uniform.
Personality[]
Rai Do was very attached and incredibly loyal to Kan Ki. Even going so far to put his faith on Kan Ki's schemes and plots.
He was a bold man with a serious personality whenever in battle. Even when being pressured by difficulties, Rai Do wasn't fazed when faced with immense danger like when he was threatened by the Zenou Clan to give the order to attack or when being trapped by Kei Sha's plan on first day on Battle of Kokuyou.
Like all ex-bandit leaders of the Kan Ki Army, he was a capable man who can make decisions independently in thick of battle. And would not go back empty handed whenever they get their 'ass kicked' by foes alike no matter how bad it was.
In addition, Rai Do had no remorse in committing crimes against innocents or vulnerable-alike as shown when he committed 'search and kill' operations on citizens of Kokuyou and regularly ordering his men to capture any "beauties" amongst the female villagers for future entertainment.
But aside from his viciousness, Kan Ki stated that Rai Do acted more like a soldier than a former bandit, probably due to being in service in Qin's military for over a decade.
Opposite to Na Ki who has the manner of being calm, Rai Do was known get impatient and be a worrier. And disliked others who made fun of him or Kan Ki.
History[]

Battle of Eikyuu Arc[]
During the Battle of Eikyuu Rai Do was in charge of the Kan Ki Army's Right Wing, while the Kan Ki forces endured the onslaught of the Ko Chou Army. While ordering his men to make a controlled retreat, Rai Do was found by Ogiko, acting as Kan Ki's messenger, who instructed Rai Do on Kan Ki's overall strategy for that entire battle.
Rai Do was amazed at Kan Ki's plan but was puzzled at how his Boss would entrust such an important message to a buffoon like Ogiko. He was then able to notice the wounds that the messenger had sustained before getting to him, which instilled a great sense of respect towards Ogiko, whom Rai Do have always considered as a mere fool kept around for the entertainment of his Boss.
Before retreating to follow Kan Ki's stratagem, Rai Do was informed that Sou Kan, the younger son of the Zhao's Left Wing enemy commander, Ryuu Haku Kou, had been captured by the Yoma Clan. He then decided that it was the perfect opportunity to put an end the enemy's left-wing leadership and went on to torture the young man to death, using his mangled body to lure his father into a trap.
His plan was successful, and true to his expectations, Ryuu Haku Kou came galloping to rescue his son. In his insurmountable grief, and despite being separated from his cavalry men and surrounded on all sides, Lord Ryuu Haku fought like a madman, killing many of Rai Do's soldiers despite taking two spears to the back and being pierced by many arrows. The old man was holding his own, and Rai Do need to kill him in order to take some of the pressure off of Kan Ki.
Upon hearing that more enemies were fast approaching his location, Rai Do decided to take to the fight himself. He struck Ryuu Haku from the back but did not manage to deliver a fatal blow. Ryuu Haku Kou immediately recognized Rai Do and attacked him viciously after the Qin General mocked his dead son by saying that Sou Kan was crying and begging for his life, going as far as to wet himself before dying from his injuries.
Rai Do was no push over, however, and returned the vicious blow with one of his own, managing to cut off Ryuu Haku's glaive arm. Rai Do then proceeded to finish off his opponent by swinging his glaive into the neck of Ryuu Haku Kou, who despite being unable to block it, managed to grab Rai Do's glaive with an iron grip with his remaining hand, with the latter speaking the name of his youngest son as his last word before finally dying.
However, the remaining arm of Ryuu Haku Kou even after death was still holding onto Rai Do's glaive so tightly that Rai Do have to order one of his men to cut it off so he could leave with the rest of his unit. This small amount of time was enough for Ryuu Fu, the eldest son of Lord Ryuu Haku, to arrive with his forces, taking out the ambushers, overpowering Rai Do and capturing the general responsible for the death of his relatives. The young Ryuu Fu resisted the urge to kill Rai Do, and instead took him to Great General Ko Chou himself.
Ko Chou had Rai Do and a few others brutally tortured in retaliation not only to appease the anger of his men but also in retribution for the massacre of civilians at Koku You. However, despite the best efforts from his torturers, Rai Do showed great valor and refused to reveal Kan Ki's plan to Ko Chou, and so he was finally executed by strangulation. His body was cut into small pieces and stored in a chest that was later discovered by Kan Ki, the officers, and his soldiers.
