Side Infos

The Quanrong are a famous mountain tribe that was responsible for overthrowing the Zhou Dynasty and heralding the start of the Warring States Period.

Introduction[]

The Quanrong (Jap: Kenjuu) are mountain dwellers, they are said to be ferocious and very strong. They also seem to have a motif regarding wolves as they and their descendants in Zhao wear wolf pelts in battle since ancient times and domesticated wolves to act as sentries. As befitting of their ferocity and current residence, the Zhao branch is also known as the Fangs of Ryouyou. Meanwhile, it is known that the descendants in Yan were used by Geki Shin for his elite troops in his army. Under Geki Shin, their Poison Dogs Unit gained renown as the fastest cavalry in all of China.

History[]

520 years ago, during the reign of the Zhou Dynasty, the Quanrong was the main army of one of the princes of the Zhou dynasty. The prince started a rebellion trying to overthrow Zhou. The Quanrong army shattered Zhou's army and broke their cities. A century later, their descendants still live on.

One group of descendants lives in Yan and were soldiers in the Geki Shin Army before later being defeated by Zhao's Ri Boku while another group resides in the city of Ryouyou in Zhao. Ruled by King Rozo, the city was considered outside of Zhao's normal jurisdiction due to their abnormal ferocity and they were given substantial autonomy and the authority to kill any trespassers (Zhao or none-Zhao alike). While the Quanrong in Zhao have little respect for Zhao's monarchy, they were respectful of its prime minister Ri Boku due to him personally giving them tribute in the form of mutton from the northern regions of Ganmon once every year. The latter was later mobilized during the Battle of Ryouyou against the Yo Tan Wa Army, allies of the state of Qin. It was shown that the Ryouyou Quanrong’s Royal family lead through fear and cruel tyranny with their subjects and soldiers being unhesitant in serving as sacrificial pawns or killing their own allies due to fear of execution of themselves and their entire families for insubordination or incompetence. According to Shun Sui Ju, they lived in a brutal society where weakness or incompetence is mercilessly purged.

It is also asserted that the Chouga Tribe in Qin is distantly related to them while the bulk of the Quanrong eventually went north after the Zhou Dynasty fell and slowly became the Xiongnu. Coincidentally, their language is the same as that of the Xiongnu and the various mountain tribes.
