When the Qin delegation entered Shintei, Kan Pishi approaches Ri Shin from behind while disguised as a soldier, expressing how much he wanted to talk with him due to his relationship with Kan Ki, asking the young general his opinion regarding "the true nature of humanity".
During the audience he enters the court in his official robes and starts ridicule Qin, which greatly angers Kai Oku. He compares Qin to a wild beast. Shin explains that king Ei Sei does not want to conquer them for greed, but rather to establish peace in the central plains. Kan Pishi points out the paradox in Qin's philosophy of believing people are inherintly good and yet wanting to rule them by law. He once agian asks Shin about the nature of humanity. Shin answers that he thinks the true nature of humanity is fire. He explains his "fire of life" and "fire of will" theory. Kan Pishi is dissapointed with his answer, since the world he wants to create will eventually be corrupted. However, Shin answers that laws are neccesairy, because people are dumb, but this does not mean they are evil, because this would mean writing them off as a lost cause. He adds that since Kan Pishi himself didn't give up on humanity that means he believes in it's goodness. Kan Pishi is intrigued by his answer and decides to visit Qin.
After arriving at Qin's capitol a seat in the inner court was prepered for Kan Pishi to improve their laws. Him and king Ei Sei debated for many days on different topics, however their conversation always turned to the theory of good and evil and came to an end, since Kan Pishi was unable to accept Ei Sei's answer that man's true nature is light. Kan Pishi was put to work in order to create new laws, however Ri Shi noticed that he lacks heart and his results were simply ordinary. During that time his spies begun to infiltrate Kanyou and gather information on his behalf.
One day Kan Pishi passed through You Ka in the palace. Their eyes met and You Ka immidiately realized that the scholar recognized him as a spy. You Ka then met with Ri Shi and accused Kan Pishi of espionage. On the same night his residence was investigated and Qin discovered his spy network.

According to his intelligence network You Ka has masters in almost every state and was working for Ri Boku for about a year. Ri Shi then start venting his frustration about Kan Pishi's actions. He says he hated Kan Pishi, since it was due to him he was always second best. He's anoyed that despite his superior intelect he was not placed in high position of power due to his stutter. However, Kan Pishi says he's fine with that, since his written works will carry his name forward. He praised Ri Shi as a worthy rival who was able to push him forward and give him a motivation to study harder as well as encourages his friend to carve his name into history.
After the meeting Kan Pishi is cournered by You Ka, moved to jail and forced to commit suicide by drinking poison. Ri Shi receives the information in the palace before he can report the situation to his king. After returning he finds his friend's dead body on the floor and bursts into anger.
