Haku Rei is a General of the Chu Military and leader of the Haku Rei Army, a powerful army amongst the superstate’s military and a direct force under Great General Ka Rin, one of the prime ministers of the Chu courts. He was once a commander in the Rin Bu Kun Army having served for years as he fought alongside his best friend, Kou Yoku and general and brother-in-law, Rin Bu Kun. Around the same age as Qin's Ri Shin, Mou Ten, and Ou Hon, Haku Rei represents the next generation of Chu military commanders alongside his best friend and they have accomplished countless military victories and participated in numerous campaigns in the name of their respective militaries.

As a military commander, Haku Rei is a master opponent in long distance warfare and tricky adversary to face in battle due to his sniping skills and experience in battles beyond that of the Warring States of Zhongyuan. And boast impressive fame as the youngest member of the Ten Bows of China.

He was first introduced in the Sanyou Aftermath Arc, as a minor antagonist in which he first meets and briefly clashed with Shin and the Hi Shin Unit on the Chu/Qin border. And reappeared as one of the many antagonists in the Coalition Invasion Arc to be confronted by the Qin Military.

Appearance

Haku Rei is a clean-shaven young man in his 20s with long darkish brown hair tied in a ponytail with a hair band that looks like a horseshoe and parted behind his ears.

Haku Rei appears to be a serious and irritable man that takes his job very seriously which is in complete contrast to Kou Yoku’s personality. Whenever Yoku steps out of line, Rei often scolds him or warns him for his behavior. He also seems to be calmer and more rational one out of the pair, but this overlaid whenever it comes to Rin Bun Kun, often remembering the promise he made with sister in keeping his brother-in-law safe with his archery and broke into tears during Rin Bun Kun’s funeral. He quite prideful in his skill as an archer since he calls himself the third best of the Ten Bows and later the second best, but this could be taken as him being incredibly obsessed in improving his skill which was seen in an omake.

History

Rei spent many years touring the Southern frontlines with Rin Bu Kun and Kou Yoku. At some point before the Coalition armies' war with the state of Qin, Rei’s older sister Haku Sui asked him to use his bow to protect her husband Rin Bu Kun.

Story

Sanyou Aftermath Arc

Haku Rei is first seen on the Chu/Qin border with Rin Bu Kun and Kou Yoku. He comments on how much the Qin have gained from their alliance with Zhao and upon talking to his superior, realizes that they will soon be fighting the Qin. He is sent to stop Kou Yoku from engaging the Qin and shots Shin off his horse. Introducing himself, he states that it is good to see that Qin has tough commanders their age and leaves with Kou Yoku in tow.

Coalition Invasion Arc

During the Battle of Kankoku Pass against Qin, Haku Rei is placed in the Chu 1st Army along with Kou Yoku, led by General Rin Bu Kun. He gains the attention of Mou Ten, after sniping Commander Rin Bou from a great distance and then puts his attention on Riku Sen whom he believes to be the captain of the Gaku Ka Unit. He is caught by Mou Ten's trap and would have been slain, if not for Kou Yoku's timely arrival. Then his unit pulls back to give support as Kou Yoku's forces battle with the Gyoku Hou Unit. When his platform cart arrives, he planned to snipe Ou Hon and Tou but unbeknownst to him Mou Ten and a few of these soldiers had been hiding under the cart. He attempted to shoot Mou Ten but missed before Mou Ten cuts his bow in two which gave Tou enough time to defeat Rin Bu Kun.

The next day he and Kou Yoku are transferred to the 2nd Army said to be dangerous even for allies; under the command of General Ka Rin. Later that day, everyone from the first army above the rank of 1000-Man Commander was gathered up. They were shocked to meet the giant, cold-hearted General Ka Rin. She calls out Rin Bu Kun's lieutenant Ro Kin. As he pledges his loyalty, she breaks his neck with a kick, saying she has no use for "incompetent fools who reek of that baldie." And that if it was up to her, they would all be executed. Also, she declares that the remnants of the 1st Army will fight that day with no assistance from the 2nd Army. And if they are unable to slay Tou they will all be executed. She leaves telling them that if they tell anyone about her height their heads will roll. They proceed to attack the Qin Army with no tactics.

Conspiracy in the Court Arc

Haku Rei and Kou Yoku make an appearance in Chapter 366, in which they are grouped with Shin, Ou Hon, and Mou Ten, while Ri Boku talks to Kaine and Fu Tei about the conditions of other states after the Coalition Invasion.

State of Ai Arc

Three years after the Coalition’s failed conquest of Qin, Rei and Yoku return to cross blades and for some pay back for Chu’s losses.

Koku You Campaign Arc

Rei and Yoku return to the capital in great hurry as hear about the assassination and death of Shun Shin Kun and make a scene during his funeral. They later hear an interesting story from Ka Rin about the current affairs of the Chu courts.

War of the Three States Arc

Along with Kou Yoku, Haku Rei are sent to assists the Juuko army in repelling the Qin invasion. They flanked Roku O Mi Army army as soon as they arrived. But disengaged the fight when the unexpected arrival of Wei army came to join the battle as Qin allies.

With the sudden turn of events, the Juuko army strategist reforms the formation and have set Gen'U and Haku Rei to face Wei army. Haku Rei army provided assistance to Gen U's army who was pushed back by three simultaneous charges of Wei Generals. As the battle continues, Gen'U kills and beheads Ba Kai, a Wei general, turning the tables around and slowly tearing down the Wei's weaken left flank.

The rest of the battle was on a standstill as neither give a foothold nor gaining the upper hand, when the CHU HQ was under attack by Tou Army, Haku Rei took the opportunity to snipe at Tou who dodged it as he is fully aware of Haku Rei's abilities. But it has given enough time for Kou Yoku to reach Tou before being interrupted by Ran Bi Haku. Shortly after, the CHU HQ was taken down and captured, Gen U ordered Haku Rei and Kou Yoku to withdraw and regroup at Juuko city.

Physical Abilities

Master Archer: As one of the Ten Bows, Haku Rei can snipe enemies from great distances and his shots being powerful enough to pierce through armor or knock a person off their horse while blocking his arrows.

Leadership

Haku Rei is a capable leader as he led his soldiers effectively in battlefields. He also trained his own special archery units that have a longer shooting range then normal archers.

Tactical Abilities

Haku Rei developed a strong grasp on military tactics, starting from his early days as a 1000-Man Commander.

Teamwork Tactic: Haku Rei is skilled in coordinating attacks with Kou Yoku on the battlefield and makes use of a platform cart to snipe his targets from afar.
