History[]

At young age of five, Shin's parents were killed in an unknown war.[1] Shin, now an orphan with nothing to his name, is taken in as a slave and raised to be a servant by the mayor of Jyouto village, a small village in the countryside of the state of Qin. The mayor introduces Shin to Hyou, another slave and orphan as they worked as servants under the mayor's family. [2]

As the two walk together, Hyou tells Shin that he probably thinks he was lucky enough to get picked up by the mayor but that's naive as in the end, he and Hyou are nothing more than servants to the mayor's family and house, being no better off than slaves.

Hyou explains that even if a servant becomes an adult, they're still a servant. The woman he marries, and their children become servants, too. Once a person falls, they're always stay that way no matter what they do but Hyou goes on to tell Shin that only way out of such a life is through the sword. He explains that the state of Qin has the strongest merit-based system in China, if they can render achievements in war, they'll be awarded with ranks.[3]

It was Hyou, after getting excited about the news of Mou Gou taking down 2 castles in 249 B.C (10 years old)[4], who inspired Shin to take up the sword and the dream of becoming the greatest general underneath the heavens. Both Shin and Hyou have always dreamed of leaving their social class by becoming the world's greatest generals.

Shin trained with Hyou with wooden swords every day after working, topping over 1,000 battles with each other usually with Hyou winning by 1 match. By sparring every day, both of them believed they'll become one step closer to their goal.

That hostiles with the respective factions continues to get more and more bloody. Shin, hearing this, asks the official about the king's faction as he tells him about Shou Bun Kun taking Hyou with him. but the official tells Shin that Hyou is mostly likely dead but refuses to believe it as the villagers stop him from hurting the official. As the day falls into the night, a worried Shin stays up all night as he thinks about his and Hyou's parting. Shin thinks to himself that there's no way that Hyou is dead. Shin tries to sleep despite his worries, but he suddenly hears some noises coming from outside. He opens the door to find a mortally wounded Hyou. Shin, shocked, screams into the night and wakes up the Li Dan and his family who come outside thinking it robbers. Shin realizing Shou Bun Kun is the source of where everything began and overall blamed him for the death of Hyo and tried to attack him. He was knocked unconscious by Shoubunkun lieutenant Heki. When he awoke Heki informed him about Hyou's heroic final moments referring to him as Lord Hyou. Shin is emotionally affected at his best friend's final moments as Heki referred to the sight of Lord Hyou as a true Blue General. Shin is really amazed at how magnificent Hyo was and finds his resolve to walk the path to become a Great General of the Heavens. He then questions Sei on what is required of him in order to accomplish this goal.

Shin listens as Sei, Heki, and Shou Bun Kun discuss the current situation when Ka Ryo Ten runs in asking if it is true that Ryo Fui is awaiting Sei's death before returning. Shin is shocked and angered by the current situation, he is concerned with how Sei is completely surrounded by enemies. Sei decides to journey up the mountain to request aid from the Mountain King. While traveling they are suddenly surrounded by mountain people, the current leader informs them he is aware of the current situation in Qin. Everyone is notified the mountain people will escort Sei only to the Mountain King accept it or be killed. One of the warriors attempt to grab Sei but he is sent flying with a punch to the face by Shin breaking part of his mask in the process. Sei gets the situation under control before everyone could start fighting and agrees to go to meet the King alone. He tells Shin that even though he is a sword, at the moment a sword is not necessary.

Not too long after Sei and the mountain people left, Shou Bun Kun asks Shin to go after Sei to save him. He also apologizes for the death of Hyou saying things were not supposed to turn out that way. Shin, Ten, and Heki are in pursuit of Sei and the mountain people however they are soon captured and thrown in prison. While in the cell a group of mountain people attempts to kill them, but they were saved by the warrior Shin punched who now respects Shin's strength.

Shin manages to survive here at the cost of several of his 100-men members, including Bi Tou, who carried Shin to safety. After the unit regroups the next day, they travel in the direction of Qin flags that are within their field of vision. These flags turn out to be part of a trap prepared by Shou Mou, but before he gets the chance to fight with the Hi Shin unit, Ou Ki appears and cuts down Shou Mou. The unit then follows Ou Ki’s army, which is moving towards the battle of Mou Bu vs Chou Sou and Houken. When they arrive, Mou Bu, Ryuu Koku, and some survivors are trapped by Chou Sou and Hou Ken’s troops who had prepared themselves for Ou Ki’s arrival. Shin and his unit are then assigned to the infantry group that will act as bait to draw out the Zhao front lines after Tou had made the opening gambit by decimating the Zhao left-wing archer units. Ou Ki’s plan proofed to be successful as he was able to penetrate deep into the Zhao army almost reaching their HQ, only to be stopped and challenged to a duel by Houken. Shin then moves towards the duel to be a witness to it.

When Ri Boku arrives, Shin and his unit go and try to intercept Gi Ka’s unit that was moving to assault Ou Ki’s. But before Shin was able to reach Gi Ka, he fires an arrow that hits Ou Ki in the back and allows Houken to pierce Ou Ki’s body and cause a mortal wound.

In tears, Shin kills Gi Ka in a fit of rage and moves back to a critically wounded Ou Ki's position. The Generals scolds his soldiers for losing their will to fight. In order to restore their morale, he then proceeds to overpower Hou Ken as he slowly beheads the Bushin. Hou Ken then pulls back his weapon in order to strike Ou Ki again, only to be blocked by Tou. Tou then gives orders for Ou Ki’s bodyguard unit and the Hi Shin Unit to bring Ou Ki to safety while he himself proceeds to assault Ri Boku’s HQ as a diversion.

Shin Rides Ou with Ou Ki

Shin and General Ou Ki trying to escape the Ri Boku Army's death trap.

General Ou Ki mentions to Shin that a chance for escape should present itself, referring to Mou Bu that was busy carving his way through the enemy lines. While escaping, Ou Ki regains consciousness and tells Shin to take a moment to relax, close his eyes and take a breath in order to fully experience the view of a general. Shin protests, only to be “strangled” into submission. Ou Ki then points out what a general see, which includes a not before existing escape route created by Mou Bu and Ryuu Koku. They then escape and regroup at a safe place in the surrounding forests, where Shin is witness to Ou Ki’s final moments; Ou Ki hands over the command of his forces to Tou gives a final piece of advice to Mou Bu and gives his glaive to Shin, after which Ou Ki passes on.

Shin inherits Ouki's glaive

A short time later, Shin with General Ou Ki's Glaive in his right hand, Mou Bu and the remaining Qin soldiers are looking at the “retreating” Zhao army, while in tears and grieving Ou Ki’s death. Shin then goes home where he is welcomed home by Ten who had taken a few days from studying.

Alliance Arc[]

The 300-man Hi Shin Unit!

Shin leading the newly promoted 300-Man unit, Hi Shin Unit against the Wei.

One year after the Zhao War and General Ou Ki's Death, Shin is found on the front lines of Qin and Wei with the rank of 300-Man Commander. Where he and the Hi Shin Unit are famous and have the power to change the tides of almost any small-scale battle. During this time, he is invited by Shou Hei Kun to attend a meeting between Qin and Ri Boku that was orchestrated by Ryo Fui.

On arrival in Kanyou, Shin and Kyou Kai are welcomed by Shou Hei Kun himself. Shin asks why Ryo Fui arranged the meeting as he starts to think it’s for killing Riboku. Shou Hei Kun says he does not know and gives Shin and Kyou Kai the order to dress as guards and strike down Riboku on his command. Shin refuses, saying it would disgrace Ou Ki’s expectations of him. Shou Hei Kun then says that others are less objected to the thought of killing Ri Boku. At that moment Mou Bu, Tou, and Ou Ki’s vassals pass them. Shou Hei Kun then says he only invited Shin in consideration of him receiving Ou Ki’s glaive so he should give up his childish sentiments. Shou Hei Kun continuous to explain that the nature of this meeting can be considered a war in itself.

Shin is then witnessed to the negotiations between Ryo Fui and Riboku that accumulates in a Qin-Zhao alliance and the transfer of the Kankou region to Qin. Following the negotiations, Shin and Kyou Kai participate in the celebratory dinner for a new alliance. Shin spots two empty seats and takes place to the shock of everyone present. Before him sat Ri Boku who asked Shin if it was a smart decision to sit there as its Ryo Fui place. Shin jumped back on instinct to draw a sword, which causes the angered Kaine to speak some aggressive words to Shin. This incites Roku O Mi to release some of his pent-up frustrations after which he, Tou, and the rest leave. Immediately after Moubu and his vassals leave to having drunk up their portion of the liquor. Shin is then called over by Shobunkun. Ri Boku then realizes that Shin is the captain of the Hi Shin unit who slew Fuu Ki, causing the two to have a short talk ending with giving a splendid retort to small provocation. Shobunkun then punches Shin on the top of the head and drags him away.

After the celebration Shin and a drunk Kyou Kai walk in on a conversation between Ten and Kaine, leading to a small discussion. Shin drags Ten away to meet up with Ei Sei, where Sei explains they only have five years to deal with Ryo Fui. He, therefore, asks Shin if he can become a general in five years.

One month after the Qin/Zhao alliance, Heki visits Shin on the front lines. Heki was in the middle of a trip to Asui were had some business to attend to with Duke Hyou. He informs Shin of the Wei invasion campaign is drawing close. And since the Duke along with Mou Gou has been nominated as potential candidates to lead the campaign, Heki has been sent to ask Duke Hyou for his opinion. He informs Shin that this information is top secret, but he decided to go out of his way to inform Shin. And if he wishes to jump up the ranks quickly, getting big accomplishments in large campaigns like these are the best choice. However, that will only be possible if Shin and his men are posted at important positions within the army. So, until then, Shin had to make the effort to earn as much merit as he can, no matter how small it may be, he had to do anything he could to secure a better position for himself in the upcoming campaign.

A few days later a rare large clash was actually about to occur on Shin's battlefront. For the purpose of pushing the battle lines. The Wei had drafted a large army numbering over 10,000 from the surrounding area. The Qin reacted by forming two armies to the north and south, to pincer the Wei army between the two Qin forces, then rout them.

Hi Shin Unit which is a part of the Northern Army, devises a plan to get to the enemies HQ. When they reach it, they find it has already been destroyed. They then meet 300-Man Commander Ou Hon from the Southern Army. Ouhon introduces his unit to the Hi Shin then goes on to explain the vast difference between the elite and common soldier. Bayou then humiliates the Hi Shin Unit. When Shin threatens Ban You, Ouhon gives him a glancing blow before telling him about the ongoing competition for the seat of a great general in Qin before insulting him. Shin tries to attack Ouhon and is pushed back by a reverse thrust from his spear. Ouhon goes on to tell Shin he is from the same family as Ouki, and that Ouki was in the branch family. Ouhon tells him that the Gyoku Hou will take all the achievements to be had.

That night the Hi Shin Unit comes up with a plan only they are capable of. They hid among dead corpse to sneak into the enemy's HQ. When the Gyoku Hou Unit arrives to the HQ they find it has been defeated by the Hi Shin Unit.

Sanyou Campaign Arc[]

A month later, the Hi Shin Unit is stationed in Mou Gou’s personal army. While stationed near the front of the reserve unit they meet Mou Ten, who is also aiming to become a great general.

On the third day, the Hi Shin Unit sees their first siege. The Qin army was forced to retreat but the Hi Shin Unit didn’t suffer any casualties, but 20 of them were injured. Ten days later the Gyoku Hou Unit brings a siege tower to the battlefield under the cover of smoke and are able to get on top of the gate. They use ropes to get down and open the gate for the army.

Later inside the city of Kourou after an argument between Mou Ten and Ou Hon, they see fire coming from the city. They see a very horrific site. Shin is stopped by En, because attacking your own is a severe crime and could get him executed, and the ones doing this will be punished. Then 1000-Man Commander Ran Dou tells them that there’s not a single army that follows the rule about not killing prisoners. He presides by killing a child, which sends Shin off the deep end. He stops with his sword at Ran Dou’s throat.

Shin Vs Ran Dou

Shin cuts down the sadist 1000-man Commander, Ran Dou.

Mou Ten tells him that if he cuts down Ran Dou, a 1000-Man Commander, he will lose everything that he worked so hard for. Shin tells him to order his men to stop this humane act and swear he will never lay hand on another civilian. He kicks Shin and goes to kill him, Shin cuts him down. He then states, “Shin of the Hi Shin Unit will absolutely never forgive scumbags like you!! No matter what reason!! Doesn't matter if you’re a 1000-Man Commander, a general, or even a king!! None of it means shit!! That’s the way I've chosen! It has never changed up until now and will never change in the future!!” Then the Hi Shin Unit comes to back their captain.

Thanks to Mou Ten, Shin gets confined for only one night as Ran Dou struck first and didn't die. Shin decides to dedicate that night to reflect on his actions without sleeping.

Days later, the Hi Shin Unit uses the Gyoku Hou’s siege tower. They then try to do the same rope trick but fail. Shin would have been killed if it weren't for the 1000-Man Kaku Bi Unit breaking through the south wall, while they were distracted by the siege tower. But after breaking into the city, the Hi Shin Unit was able to defeat a famous Wei commander’s Unit. Also, the siege tower broke.

That night while they’re celebrating, they meet Kaku Bi, he tells him that because of their similar background, he respects and supports Shin. Kaku Bi comments that due to Shin's actions in Kourou, there have been no acts of atrocity in Kinrikan. Telling him that they won't lose out to the noble caste, he heads for a war council.

Just a few minutes later, he is decapitated by Rin Ko, who infiltrated the city to kill notable 1000-man commanders.

Three days later, despite the army's defensive march, Rinko successfully kills General Ra Gen while the Mou Gou army marched to their next Wei city. Rinko’s path away from the dead general leads him to the Hi Shin unit whom he intimidates with his fierce killing intent. It causes them to halt in fear, with the exception of Shin, who attacks Rinko instantly. He grabs Shin by the wrist, running him into branches before attempting a cut that is dodged by the 300-man commander. Dropping Shin on the floor, he tells his men to go ahead and comments that Shin must be strong to have dodged his sword and be unfazed by his killing intent. After asking his name, he checks his list and not finding Shin on it, tells him that he gets to live another day. Shin interrupts his departure by asking if he killed Kaku Bi, Rin Ko replies yes, and is instantly attacked by Shin yet again. He cuts at Shin's chest, but he manages to dodge most of the blow leading Rinko to note that Shin is already giving off the "Air of a General" though it is but the tiniest of hints. He charges Shin but is stopped by spears thrown by the Hi Shin unit who caught up to them. When Shin asks how an assassin could be a 300-Man Commander, Rin Ko informs him that he can command much more as he is a full-fledged general. Before leaving, he states that generals that are truly beloved by the heavens number only a small handful and wonders to himself why he mentioned that. After telling Shin that he will remember the Hi Shin unit, he heads to his next target.

Shin promoted to 1000-Man Commander

Shin is promoted to 1000-Man Commander by Great General Mou Gou.

A few nights later, Shin catches a rabbit and, on his way, to cook it, he steps on an old man’s head. He shares his rabbit with him and gives him advice. The next morning the three 300-Man Commanders are gathered to promote two of them to the rank of 1000-Man Commander temporarily. Ou Hon and Mou Ten are chosen. But Shin is called to Mougou and he recognizes him as the old man from last night. On the whim of Mou Gou, Shin is promoted but placed under harsh conditions - He must bring back the heads of either three 1000-Man Commanders or one general. And if he is unable to fulfill these requirements, he will be demoted three ranks and forced to start over from 5-Man Squad Leader, and the Hi Shin Unit will be disbanded. Shin replies by stating he will take the head of General Ren Pa, and if he can't he'll gladly start over as Infantry. Since the Hi Shin Unit was bolstered by 700 men.

At the gathering of his newly rebuilt unit, So Sui the former lieutenant of the Kakubi Unit introduces himself and says his new 700 men are remnants of the Kakubi Unit. He lets So Sui keep his rank.

Later in a conversation with Mou Ten and Ou Hon, Shin learns that a large number of officers in the army are resentful of their promotions. And there are people in the upper echelons who look unfavorably upon this as well. So, if they lose the campaign, they will be court-martialed and punished. So, Shin had to start thinking of how to utilize a 1000-Man Unit’s tactics. After all, a 1000-Man Unit is an entity that is already at a scale where its actions can affect the battlefield as a whole.

While discussing battle strategies, Do Mon informs them that the battle will be drawing near. That night Kyou Kai informs after the war she will leave the Hi Shin Unit, to go avenge her sister. And when she’s done, she will come back, so she can move forward with them.

On the day of the battle, they find out Ren Pa is not the Commander-in-Chief, so he won't be limited to staying in headquarters.

While posted in the 2nd wave, So Sui informs Shin that before targeting Ren Pa they should meet their requirements first, to be officially recognized as a 1000-Man Unit.

Shin is later informed the enemy is targeting newly formed 1000-Man Units. With the 1st wave suffering heavy damage the 2nd is called in. Unlike the other, the Hi Shin Unit was doing well by fighting as separate bodies. But under the rule that “no matter what time it is, and no matter what enemy you happen to be fighting the moment there’s a signal, we will all charge the target marked by Captain Shin and strike them as 1000 men in unison”- So Sui

When the Wei 2nd wave appears, they set off smoke bombs to have the 1st army retreat. The Wei then begins to attack the Qin with arrows from outside of the smoke. No matter where they went the arrows kept coming, Kyou Kai figured out the Wei were transmitting their position using sound. But it is useless to kill the sound teams because more would just take their place. As they are about the pull out of the smoke the Wei send out their chariots. Kyou Kai comes up with a plan to make noise themselves to confuse the enemy. En comments saying that there has been a low ringing sound since the battle, to which Kyou Kai replies to it must be the enemy command squad. So, if they then figure out the place that’s giving off the noise, they find the location of the enemy command group. Shin has the Seki Squad figure out where the noise was coming from. They take the cavalry leaving the Infantry with En. When they reach the command group they are caught in a trap. While Shin is leading the charge from the front, he gives everyone the strength to go on. When the enemy starts to aim for Shin, So Sui sends the Retsu Brothers to guard him. As they close in on the enemy infantry, they are knocked off their horses by an anti-cavalry picket trap, which was hidden underground. Thanks to this trap, the Hi Shin Unit’s Vanguard was nearly completely destroyed, leaving only a handful of survivors. Being cut off from their comrades, Shin and a dozen other members were trapped by 800 Wei soldiers. As they were being slaughtered by the Wei, the smoke began to come to the rear of them. Just then the Gyoku Hou Unit suddenly appears from amidst the smoke. They began to head for Gen Bou. Then the rest of the Hi Shin Unit’s cavalry shows up having imitated the Gyoku Hou and comes by stepping on top of corpses. They then begin to chase after the Gyoku Hou and claim Gen Pou's head for themselves. When they catch up to the Gyoku Hou Unit, Shin notices the injuries on Ou Hon. He raises their morale, by insulting them. As they are about to reach Gen Pou he has all his forces retreat. As they are retreating Shin throws a spear at Gen Bou, which only hits the top of his seat. So Sui tells Shin that they did enough by causing the Wei to retreat, but Shin says that they were completely crushed by Gen Bou's schemes.

The Mou Gou Army which had suffered a devastating loss in the opening battle set up Shin and Ou Hon as the heroes of the battle in an effort to preserve morale.

At nightfall, Mou Ten informs Shin that Gen Pou was killed by General Kan Ki. Then he invites Shin to Ou Hon’s tent. Mou Ten has their three units fight together to strike down Rin Ko. The next day the Gaku Ka switches back to an independent entity and heads out, leaving 200 soldiers to cover their spot. They aim for Rin Ko’s command, but their target isn't Rinko rather his own personal soldiers. When Mou Ten gave the signal both the Gyoku Hou and Hi Shin rush out. Thanks to the Gaku Ka’s first engagement, all the Wei soldiers were on guard thinking that it was some sort of concerted attack with other units. But it was only the Gaku Ka Unit all by themselves grabbing the enemy’s attention. So, there was little to no obstructions for the Hi Shin and Gyoku Hou. When they started to close in on the enemy command, the Gaku Ka opened a path by leading the Wei soldiers away with them. Leaving only Rinko’s remaining soldiers. When So Sui takes a hit from one of Rinko soldiers and kills him, Kyou Kai goes back for him saying the Hi Shin Unit has need of him in the future. Then Shin heads for Rinko.

Shin Sent Rin Ko Flying

Shin sends Rin Ko flying.

When Shin and Ou Hon fight him, Rin Ko aims for and tries to finish off Ouhon first, who is the more troublesome one, but he is interrupted by Shin. Rinko thinking, he can easily defeat Shin is surprised when he blown away by Shin who is capable of keeping up with him. Rinko states Shin is capable of bringing out more power the stronger his opponent is. As Ou Hon and Shin rush the Wei General, Rin Ko is able to fend off both their attacks while wounding them both. Shin, laughing a little, states that it seems being able to wound even general Ou Ki wasn’t just some idle rumor. Rin Ko claims that they don’t understand what it's like to go up against General Ou Ki. Shin tells him that Ou Hon from the same family as General Ou Ki, and he’s the one that inherited General Ou Ki's Glaive. And he’s the man who inherited his dying will and the man who will surpass all other generals and become the strongest general in history. When he says that after he slays him Ren Pa is next, Rinko slashes Shin across the forehead, saying to Shin not to get ahead of himself because today is the last day of his life. As they are fighting Rinko Deals heavy blows to Shin. Shin releases because all the Great Generals he’s seen are so strong isn’t simply because of the number of battles they’ve been in, they managed to overcome it right in the heat of battle over and over again. Shin then begins to surpass his limits, he uses his “Jump Attack” and breaks Rinko’s horse and cut off two fingers on his left hand. The Hi Shin and Gyoku Hou then pull out but are surrounded. Then Ban You comes and has secured an escape route.

That night as Kyou Kai tends to Shin’s wounds, she gives him a secret medicine passed down in her village. She uses her small supply on Shin ignoring her own wounds. The next morning Shin is up and feeling fine. Kyou Kai claims half was due to the medicine and the other half was due to his absurd healing strength.

Later on, Shin finds out from General Ei Bi that the Hi Shin Unit has been assigned to the reserves in the rear, along with the Gyou Hou and Gaku Ka but Ei Bi says that if Rin Ko makes his move being posted in the rear would actually be to the Hi Shin Unit’s advantage. So Sui agrees because it would be difficult to run into Rinko deployed as part of the line. Whereas the larger area they cover as part of the rear gives them a better chance. Before the battle, Shin is ordered to leave 200 of his men as a precaution against further enemy movements. Seeing the injured Kyou Kai, he leaves 200 of their most heavily wounded men, under her command.

When attacking the Qin, Rin Ko has his troops perform the Rindou. When they break off, they head straight for General Ei Bi, who is then slain as he leaves the rest to Shin.

Before Rin Ko can make it to the HQ, he is stopped by Shin and the Hi Shin Unit. They enter into a fierce duel. Shin tries to hit Rinko from the left, where he can’t use his other hand. But thanks to Rinko’s skillful horsemanship, he can’t get an opening at all.

Even though Shin knew that there was something going on at the HQ, he didn't have time to worry about it, because it is he turned his eyes away from Rin Ko for an instant, he would die. During the fight, Rin Ko realizes that Shin is the reason for the high morale of all the Qin soldiers. In reality, Shin was fulfilling the role of a commander for the whole area. When Shin charges for Rin Ko, he deals a leg wound Shin’s leg, and since he’s mounted it proves to be fatal. Because a stable footing is essential for mounted combat and having lost that he was no longer able to stop Rinko’s swings. Shin then jumps and grabs Rinko throwing both of them to the ground, injuring Rinko’s neck. Having switched to a ground arena, through his will power Shin is able to stand on his wounded leg.

During their duel, it begins to rain. Shin is losing strength, but So Sui stops the infantry from coming to his aid, saying if they intervene Shin’s name will be tarnished forever, making it so he can never become a Great General. That doesn't stop Gi Ryou, because if Rin Ko dies it's over for the Wei. He’s then cut down by So Sui. Then So Sui who could not stop himself let off a huge killing intent directed at Rinko. And in response to that, Rinko reflexively cut him down. And in that tiny window, when Rinko shifted his attention away from Shin, Shin did not let the opportunity escape to deal a fatal blow to Rinko. Then Rinko slashed Shin's leg. Rinko got back up.

Rinko says that Renpa is waiting for him because he is "Renpa’s sword", a title bestowed to him by the heavens. And that there are only a small handful of generals that are truly beloved by the heavens. He tells Shin about how Renpa saved him as a child. And it was fate that brought him and Renpa the two of whom had a natural talent for warfare together. Shin says that the heavens don’t dictate fate. And that everyone stands on their own two feet. But the part about meeting people being important, he can understand me, because he met and grew up together with the man who was going to become an even greater general than Ren Pa. He gave him his dream but left him at a young age, but in exchange, he ended up encountering another incredible guy. And from then on, even more meetings and farewells with irreplaceable comrades. And he even met the man who would become the “compass” for his path. And for Rinko to say all this wasn't a coincidence, he might be right, but that doesn't have anything to do with the heavens.

Shin stabs Rinko

Shin Kills and defeats the veteran General Rin Ko of Ren Pa's Flying Spear and a member of his Four Heavenly Kings.

All he’s doing is moving forward, carrying all the thoughts of his comrades on his shoulders, one step at a time. And his fights with Rinko will also become fuel for him to move forward even more. So meetings are up to fate and everything after is all up to you. After a few more swings Shin runs Rinko threw.

Instead of cutting off Rinko’s head, En tells the Unit that news will still spread the same. And he has the cavalry spread the word that Shin slew Rinko. So Sui is still unconscious but should be alright.

Then, Ryuu Sen notices that the spot they left Kyou Kai, and the other injured men is empty. A dying Wei soldier mockingly tells them that their reserve unit of 500 men from Kai Shi Bou’s personal retinue posted to the side of Rinko’s main force, broke through their weakened areas when their attention was turned. So, the comrades they left have been killed by know. They then rush over to the area. They find a mountain of corpses. After a while they find an exhausted Kyou Kai standing over a large number of large enemy corpses.

Shin catches Kyou Kai

Shin catches Kyou Kai before she falls.

Just when Shin arrives in front of Kyou Kai, he then dismounts and catches Kyou Kai onto his arms. Then because of tears in her clothing, the unit figures out that their lieutenant is really a woman. Then Den Yuu reminds everyone of all the time Kyou Kai had saved them, and it doesn't matter that she’s a woman. And for a young girl like her to be so skilled with a sword, then going as far as to take to the battleground while disguised as a man, she must be carrying a great burden or task on her shoulders. Shin responds by saying it’s the opposite because Kyou Kai is actually “empty.” And she is on a journey to avenge her sister. Then she finally started to look past her revenge, for a place where she can return to after it’s done, and that place was the Hi Shin Unit. So, they decide to treat her the same as before, and the fact that she’s a woman might someday reach the enemy, and once that happens, she would be targeted specifically for that reason. So, they made a pact to use what little strength they had to protect Kyou Kai together.

En notices the news of Rinko’s death seems to have blunted their momentum, but they weren't collapsing just yet. The reason for their morale holding was due to the fact Rinko wasn't a genuine Wei general and the fact that this a battle to safeguard their own homeland from foreign invasion.

Shin leaves the Unit to En, and heads for Mougou’s HQ. Shin meets up with Mou Ten on the way to HQ. They fight the path towards the HQ completely unguarded, and when they reach the HQ, they fight no one there. When they find Mou Gou they locked into a duel with Renpa, then Ren Pa cuts off his arm. Mou Ten then rushes Renpa, but he kills his horse and two of his men, knocking Mouten to the ground.

When Shin is watching of Renpa he feels Renpa’s pressure, and unlike Ouki he is standing as their enemy, which makes it hard to breathe because it feels like his heart is being held in his grasp. But when Ren Pa insults Ouki, Shin gets furious and yells at Ren Pa. When Ren Pa looks at him, he tells Shin he’s 10 years too early, and first must acquire a name worth his time if he wishes to speak to him. Shin replies by saying he already has a name worthy of that. He then throws Rinko’s sword at Renpa, and says, “I am Shin of the Hi Shin Unit, the man who slew Rin Ko of your Four Heavenly Kings!!” Ren Pa then directs this attention towards Shin. Shin dismounts and braces himself for the general’s strike.

Ren Pa Strikes Shin

Shin receiving Ren Pa's strike.

As he blocks it, he feels the awesome full-strength blow of a Great General knocking him into the ground as the hit created a small creator. As blood leaks from every one of his pours, Shin then rises and is hit again blowing him away, but still stands back up. After a long talk between Ren Pa and Mou Gou, Ren Pa prepares to kill Shin who doesn't have any energy left to move. He stops when Mou Gou tells him that he accompanied Ou Ki in his last moments and was the one who inherited his glaive. After cutting down a Qin soldier who stabs him in the back. He asks Shin what Ou Ki’s last moments were like? “Was he relieved that though he had been defeated, it was not enough to tarnish his fame, or did he pass on with a face twisted with hatred and regret?” Shin replies by telling Ren Pa it was neither, nor Ou ki said, “Those who are strong will always be defeated by the next powerful person. And so, the flow of time continues on. Which is exactly why these chaotic times are so interesting. He died with a smile on his face. That sight of him could be seen by anyone as a Great General of the Heavens! That visage of him was that of a true hero of the ages.”

Then General Kai Shi Bou suddenly comes from the flank to assist Ren Pa. And the Qin HQ is then thrown into a brawl between the Qin and Wei soldiers. However, everyone then sees that the Wei HQ is in flames. To tip the scale, Kai Shi Bou tries to kill Mou Gou is an ordered by Ren Pa to cease because this was their loss. The Great General explains the situation with Kai Shi Bou’s Left Army remaining scattered in the mountains, whilst the Center Army, having lost Rin Ko, was now rendered powerless, and even Kyou En’s Right Army was still held up in the mountains to the rear to watch the Ou Sen Army, who were practically unscathed. If it were a Zhao army, perhaps they would have a chance. But since it was Wei, to rally them would take much more time. Also, they had Ou Sen and Kan Ki to deal with. Then Heki rushes up the mountain with 2000 soldiers. Then he tells Mou Gou it was time for a ceasefire. Stating which the Qin will hereby forbid all attacks on any of Wei’s soldiers, and Ren Pa will begin retreating the Wei forces at his own discretion, and they are not to lay a hand on any of the Sanyou populace nearby who have been hiding. Mou Gou agrees.

As Kai Shi Bou goes to apologize for losing track of Kan Ki and allowing him to get to the Wei HQ. Ren Pa replies to him saying Kan Ki wasn't the problem. Because the Wei main offense was comprised of the Center Army. So long as that remained intact, regrouping would have been a manageable task. Their biggest miscalculation was that its commander, Rin Ko, would be defeated by some nameless soldiers.

He then goes over to Shin. He then tells Mou Ten to get back. He then tells Shin to become a Great General he needs the “willpower of a hundred!” Also, the arm strength of a hundred. The knowledge of a hundred, the experience of a hundred, the luck of a hundred. It was due to the Zhao Three Great Heavens and Qin Six Generals possessing all these traits that they were able to construct such a perfect era! He then asks Shin if he thinks he’ll be able to stand shoulder to shoulder with them. Shin replies by saying his dream isn't to stand shoulder to shoulder with them, rather surpass all of them and become the Greatest General in History. He then tells Shin it is impossible to even become equal, much less surpass them. No matter how large of a storm he kicks up in the future, the only thing that will ever be thrown his way is “what if’s.” However, the truth is, there exists only one method through which Shin can surpass them, and that is by completely overwriting their legend. By completing a tremendous feat that even they were not able to accomplish, history will, without a doubt, remember his name. And that is the unification of all of China. And to accomplish this feat would require a king who holds a frightful level of “Martial Might.” But most of all, it requires a king of a caliber who would not balk at the great cost of bloodshed this feat would require. Then Shin promises Renpa he will unify China. He then gives the young commander his Flying Spear's sword and tells him to keep on improving himself and bids farewell.

Mou Gou then goes to inform the troops they've won the battle. As Heki comes to greet Shin he passes out. Meanwhile, at Kanyou Sei he’s about the win, and how Shin defeated the commander of the Wei main offensive.

Hi Shin's Farewell to Kyou Kai

Shin and Hi Shin members give their farewells to a departing Kyou Kai.

The Hi Shin Unit is allowed to return home as a small gesture of reward by General Mou Gou. On the journey home, Kyou Kai decides to depart before Shin wakes up. As she is leaving, she is caught in a trap set by Shin, as punishment for trying to sneak off by herself. Then Shin tells her that no matter how much distance is between them, they’ll be supporting her from behind. She then proceeds by throwing Shin into the hole.

In Kanyou, Shou Bun Kun comments on Shin’s outfit, saying he can’t believe he’s wearing that to the reward ceremony. Shin replies saying these are his only clothes. But since some people are wearing body armor, they should let him slide.

Sanyou Campaign's Reward Ceremony

Shin present at the Reward Ceremony.

At the reward ceremony, Shin stands at the front and is quickly rushed to the back by Mou Ten. Shin has been rewarded the third prize for slaying, the famous Zhao turned Wei general Rin Ko who commanded the Wei's main offense. As he goes to the front, he steps on general Do Mon. While walking he is stiff, and his face is frozen, but when he sees Sei, his nervousness vanishes. Shin’s nobility rank was raised by three ranks, and he was awarded 500 units of gold, and 5 units of treasure, and officially promoted to a 1000-Man Commander.

Sei rewards Shin

Shin receives his first reward from his king, Ei Sei.

Then he was bestowed a sword by Sei. The sight of the two young men would steal away the breaths of every spectator there. Because the sight of the two seemed to fit perfectly together, despite the difference in status as a king and army officer. The beauty of the spectacle plunged the entire hall into silence for an instant, and then it transformed into great applause. But the two of them were actually acting out the scene because doing this was all they could do to hold back their laughter.

Chapter 244 cover

Shin telling Ei Sei about the merging of their dreams.

After the ceremony, Shin tells Sei their two paths have finally merged into one, the unification of China. And to achieve that requires both military strength and the strength of a king.

Sanyou Aftermath Arc[]

Now reborn officially reborn as a 1000-Man Unit, Shin and the Hi Shin Unit are later assigned to Kei City to assist in defending it from Wei. Shin ventured into by himself to found something but lost his wallet on the way. He nearly got his arm chopped by the eatery owner Nanman for a misunderstood eat-and-running until a woman named Hi Sui paid for him. While annoyed that she scolded him, a another 1000-Man Commander tried to harass her, which led Shin to punch him out to save Hi Sui but then ran to avoid punishment. Shin was shocked to learn that she was the city's lady and didn't need him to protect her but was grateful, nonetheless. He promised that he will pay for the food, in the same spot then leaves.

He was shocked to learn from the owners that she was going to be married to Wei's Ga Gyuu and went to her house. She just accepted the marriage, but he went to tell her that she must carve her own destiny, then tells her that he isn't alone, and he has his own unit to assist her. They later went on to fight Ga Gyuu's soldiers while the latter was too focused on massacring Kei City's army and was killed by Shin. She jumped on him when he rescued her. He later left the city, rewarded for his actions, but not enough to be promoted. While on the road, he was heckled upon for wasting such a woman.

Coalition Invasion Arc[]

Before the invasion began, he was sent to Chu frontlines, defending the area. His unit also there. But they were constantly harassed by Kou Yoku's taunts, which he tried to charge, but he was halted. His unit was later recalled to Wei frontlines and celebrated Ei Sei's fatherhood with Mou Ten. Then he and his unit were recalled to Kanyou when they passed along Jo, a minor kingdom defended only by old men and women. They charged against Han besiegers, he slew Ba Kan, Han's commander. He saved the city and was rewarded by the city's elder an updated map, as their maps were obsolete.

As they went to regroup, the invasion started. They arrived in a city too late, as the inhabitants were killed by Wei. He rose a flag to honor the dead then moved on. They met Duke Hyou Army, busy chasing Wei's Go Hou Mei Army. They stalled the army, until the arrival of Ri Boku Army and Zhao troops forced them to retreat.

During The Battle of Kankoku Pass, Shin, and the Hi Shin Unit were assigned to the Duke Hyou Army. When Duke Hyou charges the Zhao army, Shin and his men quickly followed the Duke's lead and shortly before engaging the Zhao troops, Shin sends Ka Ryo Ten back, deeming the melee engagement was too dangerous. When Duke Hyou turns his army left to engage the Zhao right army of Kouson Ryuu that had made a movement, Shin and his soldiers fight their way through the Zhao troops almost all the way to Duke Hyou's personal unit.

Duke Hyou's army then gets attacks in the rear by the army of Man Goku of the Assault and Shin instinctively realizes the danger of this and moves all the way from the front to the back with his unit to save the entire army of Duke Hyou. When he arrived in the back, he successfully halted Man Goku's advance and starts to rile up the entire rear of Duke Hyou's army to make a stand. Doing this, Shin successfully rallied over 10,000 troops to turn around and face the Zhao army head-on.

Shin Cuts Down Man Goku

Shin cuts down and defeats Man Goku of the Assault.

Shin then fights his way to Man Goku and after a short conversation slash down Man Goku. In relation to their previous conversation, Shin pays his final respects by promising Man Goku that he will never commit or allow something like The Massacre of Chouhei to ever happen again. Man Goku says he will be watching Shin from the hatred and always be watching to see if he keeps his promise.

During the night, Shin is sitting on an elevated place deep in thought. Even his men sitting below him are talking with a serious mood about what happened, instead of a joyous celebration for killing a general. Shin is then slapped hard on the back by Duke Hyou and tumbles down the elevated place all the way down and falls on Ten mouth to mouth, therefore kissing each other. Duke Hyou then has a drink with Shin to celebrate Shin being the Hero of the day for their battlefield. While challenging the men present to drink his liquor, Duke Hyou talks about the current state of their battle and how he perceives warfare. Shin says he understands the Duke's view on warfare and Duke Hyou in recognition of Shin's words and action asks how many losses the Hi Shin unit had in order to bolster them with troops from his own unit, he even throws in two 500-man units for Shin to use how he sees fit.

The days following are just a back-and-forth battle. Until the Duke smelled wrong with Zhao's movements. He is right as Ri Boku starts attacking towards the Bu Pass. They tried to attack the Ri Boku Army, busy sieging Qin cities and towns towards Sai. He tried to rescue the Duke, but the old man told him to go on. He did, with the remains of the Duke's army, but harassed by other Zhao units, combined by physical tiredness and fatigue, his psyche shattered by the Duke's death, made him a broken mess until he saw Ei Sei in Sai.

Sei ready for battle

Shin meets Ei Sei and his army in Sai.

After Duke Hyou's death, Shin led the remnants of his army along with the Hi Shin Unit further in the Bu Pass. After passing by the three cities of Kan, Ri, and Rou, they reached the city of Sai, where they could finally get seek refuge from the endless pursuit of Ri Boku's soldiers, he himself a broken mess. By choosing to stop at Sai, what these men saw could truly be said to be a single ray of light shining through the darkness. What they saw was their King Ei Sei, who told them his reason for being there was to fight alongside them. Shin then informed Sei that Duke Hyou was killed, and those that are left are all beaten up too, and if that wasn't enough, the enemies Ri Boku and Hou Ken would be there soon, and all their Great General calibers were still at Kankoku Pass. Sei revealed his plan to stop the enemy there at Sai and asked Sei a favor of just leaning at him for a while, which the King agreed, being grateful for doing everything. While the two men were talking, everyone was wondering who that mysterious figure was. Shin revealed that Sei is none other than the king of Qin during their meal, much to everyone's amazement, who was surprised by how casual Shin was with him.

Shin and Sei held a meeting at the HQ to discuss the way they would approach the battle. Ten shared the information she gathered on the city's state. Hearing the news, Shin realized it was going to come down to a melee battle on the walls and asked Ten how many men were available, to which she replied 1000 men. A shocked Shin responded that the Ri Boku Army was over 30,000 strong, while the sum of the Qin forces was less than 5000. Sai's population numbered roughly 30,000, however, 20,000 of them were comprised of children, women, or the elderly. Sei was relieved that there was still so many left and if they were to add them up then they would have 35,000. Shin was shocked that they were planning to use normal civilians to fight and told Sei not to underestimate warfare, but Shou Bun Kun told him to be quiet.

Later, Sei had the entire citizens gather. Shin was on edge and wondered if Sei's plan was going to work. Shou Bun Kun started by introducing himself as the Chancellor of the Left and then Sei as their sovereign, Ei Sei the 31st King of Qin. Sei, with a moving speech managed to convince the militia to take up arms and defend their city and state to their dying breath.

Shin's Willpower and Endurance

Shin cuts down and defeats Man Goku of the Assault.

Shin energetically fought every day during the Battle of Sai, protecting Sai and played a big role in the whole defense, defending the most hit south side. He is fatigued at 4th night, and Sei comes to visit him, making the whole Hi Shin unit surprised. However, slowly Sai begins to fall, making everyone demoralized. Suddenly, reinforcements from the mountain come. Shin says that only he, Sei and a very few other people knew about this. The tides of the battle turn and Ri Boku's troops are getting overwhelmed and start losing, but, then appears Hou Ken. As Yo Tan Wa angered wants to duel him, Shin stops her saying that he should be the one that duels Houken. As the fight between Shin and Houken begins, both of their horses fall, and Shin is dealt a blow in the ribs by Houken early in the fight, and he is knocked away. As everyone thinks Shin instantly lost, he stands up and tells Houken that he realizes why he struggled with Duke Hyou and couldn't defeat Ou Ki. It was because Houken's blade did not weight like a blade of a true Great General.

Shin stabs Hou Ken

Shin wounds Hou Ken.

As he angers Hou Ken, both of them charge at each other, trading blows. Just as Shin manages to parry Houken's strike, he attacks him again knocking him away and wounding him in the chest. Not leaving any time for Houken to retaliate, Shin quickly jump-attacks, wounding and scarring Houken at the same place where Ouki did. Seeing this, Ri Boku orders a retreat. At first Hou Ken refuses to retreat, even killing his soldiers that came to help him. But Shin Sei Jou convinces him to retreat. Hou Ken says that he will let Shin live but swears to remember his name this. As Shin wants to stop Hou Ken from leaving, he faints.

After the Ri Boku Army retreated from Sai, the citizens and troops naturally held a party to celebrate this great victory. Shin was still lying unconscious in a bed due to his wounds in the previous battle and duel with Houken. Sometime during the night, Shin woke up and saw that Ten had been by his side the whole time and had actually fallen asleep. He gave a smile and put Ten in the bed instead and then left to go outside, almost everyone at the party had fallen asleep due to the exhaustion from being forced with little to no sleep for a week. Similarly, the mountain tribes were exhausted from being push in a fiery pace by Yo Tan Wa in order for them to go to Qin's rescue.

When looking at everyone sleeping soundly and getting some well-earned rest, he noticed someone on a wall and after a moment recognizes Sei. Shin decided to go talk to him and had to crawl up the last set of stairs due to his fatigue. He spoke to Sei about war, how it affects you as a person and that the people of Sai more than likely knew that they were being manipulated into fighting but that they still fought for Sei because of how brightly he shined. After this night they wait another day before leaving for Kanyou.

Shortly before the award ceremony, he met up with Mou Ten and Ou Hon to discuss how they fared during the invasion. He just praised Ten for surviving the fatal wound. Ou Hon and Shin almost sparks a new fight between them, forcing Mou Ten to once again mediate and calm them down then told the two that Shin won this round.

During the award ceremony there was three "Special semi-awards" that was going to be give out. The first of the awards went to the people of Sai for valiantly defending their city with the price of their lives. Each citizen had his nobility rank raised by two and would receive a portion of a generous monetary reward. The second went to the mountain king Yo Tan Wa. She received the rank of Dai Jou Zou (Da Shang Zhao) and 30 units of treasure. The last of the award was given to Shin for his many accomplishments during the invasion. For personally slaying Zhao General Man Goku, for accompanying Duke Hyou in chasing down the Ri Boku Army in the southern passage and thereby buying precious time for everyone else, for serving as the southern wall commander and even though they saw the most brutal fighting in the whole battle, holding it to the end. Finally, this award was given to Shin because he personally dueled Hou Ken and managed to drive him off without too many casualties.

Due to all these feats, Shin had his nobility rank raised by 1, he had his current territory of residence Fuuri enlarged, received 500 units of gold, 5 units of treasure and lastly, became officially promoted from a 1000-man commander to a 3000-man commander.

Chapter 356 cover

Shin leading the newly formed 3000-man Hi Shin Unit.

When receiving the ceremonial sword from Sei, Sei asked him if he isn't happy as he is not causing a big ruckus to like during the last ceremony. Shin replied that of course, he is happy, but he is more excited for what is slowly coming into view, referring of course to being only 3 ranks away from becoming a fully-fledged general.

Two weeks later Shin and his Unit set out for Kaisou region to defend the citizens and help rebuild the villages. Due to the invasion the villages were in ruins, no defensive walls or fences and many homes were burnt down. Shin would be informed by Ten that Ou Hon and Mou Ten were north and south of their current locations. Ou Hon was promoted to the rank of 3000-Man Commander and Mou Ten to 2000-Man Commander, Ten concluded that High Command stationed them close to each other so their rivalry would empower them to finish their tasks quickly.

Kyou Kai's Revenge Arc[]

The Hi Shin Unit, celebrated the return of the missing Lieutenant Kyou Kai who finally finished her vengeance. After many glorious feats on the battlefield, she would then inform Shin and the other officers of her 2 goals. The first was to become a great general, since that's what her sister would have done. The second was to have Shin's child. After being informed of how babies were made, Kyou Kai avoids Shin for the next few days.

During the winter the Hi Shin Unit had to stay at their post, until spring when another unit would relieve them. Later Shin and Kyou Kai would have duel while discussing the number of great generals Qin has and what amount they need to conquer all of China.

Shin later received news that General Mou Gou was dying, and he raced to his home, on the way he met up with Mou Ten and they wondered if they would make it in time. Upon arrival, Mou Gou was told that both Shin and Mou Ten were present he sat up and decided to tell his story. He told of his travels across China to become a hero. And upon arrival in Qin, he began to blossom, but the Six Great Generals grew so much stronger and faster he couldn't keep up. He told of his jealousy of the Six Greats, but he truly admired them. He went on to say, Shin, Mou Ten, and Ou Hon should all rise up together. They didn't need to get along and the rivalry was good but to keep each other in mind and have the special bond that the Six Great Generals had. He then said, they should become undefeatable heroes like the Six Great General. Finally, he said it was a long journey and died while sitting up.

When hearing news of Sei's new baby girl being born, the Hi Shin Unit was in an uproar. Shin stated, "So it happens that people die, but it also happens that they born..." Shin said the possibility of the baby could be the reincarnation of General Mou Gou, and Ten reminded him it was a girl. Shin had So Sui assemble the troops, and they celebrated the birth of a new princess. The Hi Shin Unit then entered a two-month break and returned to the front lines.

Conspiracy in the Court Arc[]

Shin Wielding his Podao

Shin wielding a podao for the first time.

With General Heki’s suppression force trapped in a pincer between the joint Zhao and Tonryuu's army, the Hi Shin unit slid in alongside Heki’s right flank to take the entire Zhao army of 10,000 for themselves. Now skilled enough to wield a glaive and promoted to 4000-man commander, Shin had cheated the system, using Kyou Kai’s rank to booster his unit to 5,000 men, giving him more than enough power to crush the Zhao advance.

During the siege of Tonryuu, he used a siege tower to enter the city with Kyou Kai, advancing past the enemy forces in search of Sei Kyou, who was rumored to be an innocent pawn in Ryo's power struggle. Reunited with Ten, the trio pushed on to the steps of Soushin Mansion, where Rui led them to her dying husband. Before exchanging his last words with Rui, he informed Shin "Though you may serve Sei as his sword, do not forget that you are also his shield...if you were ever to fall, then Ei Sei [would also fall]" to which Shin replied, "Don't worry, I will never fall."

Following the battles conclusion, Shin returned to the capital with Rui to apologize for his failure to rescue the prince in time. He confronted Ryo before leaving.

Fire Dragons of Wei Arc[]

Ou Hon Strikes Shin

Shin and Ou Hon celebrate their reunion with an all-out bout.

The Hi Shin Unit was personally requested by general Tou to reinforce the Qin forces in the Choyou Region of Wei. Once there, they met up with the Gyoku Hou Unit and, after an exchange of words, Shin and Ou Hon began to fight each other, but they were stopped by Tou, who had been waiting for them.

Following Ou Hon's attack strategy, the Hi Shin, Gyoku Hou Units and Roku O Mi Army attacked three points of the Go Hou Mei Army's defense circle, while general Tou worked as a decoy to attract the enemy's attention. As Shin's unit progressed, Wei reserve troops arrived, led by none other than the great general Gai Mou, a member of the Seven Fire Dragons. Gai Mou, impressed by Shin's feats, challenged him to a duel.

Shin answered Gai Mou's call, to everyone's surprise, and the two men started clashing, with Gai Mou clearly having the upper hand and Shin coming closer to death with each blow. However, at some point, Gai Mou suddenly decided to retreat. Confused by that move, Shin's comrades realized that their strategist, Ka Ryo Ten, had been kidnapped by one of Gai Mou's lieutenants, Jun Sou. Kyou Kai run after them to save Ten, but she only managed to take Jun Sou with her instead.

That night the entire Hi Shin Unit was thrust into a deep depression with the loss of Ten. At the HQ tent, a multitude of personnel were gathered. Kyou Kai apologized to Shin for being unable to save Ten, he then grabbed her in anger, and asked her why she wasn't able to save Ten when she saw she had been kidnapped. Kyou Kai then tried to leave to go rescue Ten. Shin explained if that were possible, they would have set out ages ago. En explained to her that Ten most likely had been taken to the HQ of the reserve army located deeper in. Reaching it would first require her to somehow get past the 10,000 troops stationed in front of them. Even if she tried to approach it stealthily, it was going to be impossible. Kyou Kai then asked Shin what he wanted her to do. He told her he was pissed off because, he didn't know what to do. Shin wanted to mount an all-out night strike to rescue Ten. Ga Ro explained that the idea was stupid. Even if Ten was their strategist, at the end of the day, Ten was still only one person. And it wasn't something you could gamble hundreds and thousands of lives on. Ga Ro then went on to explain that those of them who have only known Ten for one or two years would not easily accept sacrifice their lives. And by choosing to come to the battlefield as a woman, she should have accepted the risks that came with it if she was captured. En told Shin even though Ten may have been in danger they had to look at the big picture.

Kyou Kai told them there was still one option available that was worth trying, a prisoner exchange. Ten for Jun Sou who she had captured earlier. At the Hi Shin Unit HQ, Shin gave orders to send out a messenger to negotiate an exchange. Ga Ro told him to think it through before he went ahead with it. If they just brainlessly asked them for an exchange, then who knew what sort of ridiculous terms the Wei would ask. Not to mention, there was a distinct chance of them falling for a trap. This angered Den Ei. Ga Ro explained that he wanted them to know there was risk involved too. He didn't have anything against Shin having them sortie because of his own personal reason. After all Duke Hyou basically made his moves depending on his mood. It was just that he wanted to take the chance to ask how deep Shin's motives went. Since it seemed to be a subject that everyone avoided touching on, he asked if Ten was Shin's women or not.

Shin's Reminiscences of Ten

Shin's memories of Ten. and Ou Hon celebrate their reunion with an all-out bout.

Ga Ro asks Shin if he made it clear, then the soldiers would be able to accept it too. Shin tells the story of how he met Ten and Sei, and ever since then, she had been by his side. And he thought of her as part of his family, like his one and only sister. Even though it was reckless, there was no way in hell he was going to sit there and throw Ten to the wolves. Ga Ro finally understood Shin. And they proceeded with the plan for a prisoner exchange.

That night the Hi Shin Unit received a message that Gai Mou had agreed to the exchange. And both sides would proceed to the center of the field in the morning. Also Seeing as how the Hi Shin Unit numbered 5,000, they would also bring 5,000 troops in kind.  The next day at the exchange, almost 20,000 Wei were stationed. Seeing as the Wei were breaking the terms right out the gate, the Hi Shin Unit had their doubts. Jun Sou told Shin he had risk too much. He asked if Shin had considered that it might be a set up? If the Wei were to hit them now, they would be caught completely off guard and be completely annihilated. Gai Mou then screamed to Shin that he would be releasing Ten at that time, so they should release Jun Sou as well. Shin asked if Gai Mou was trying to pull something. Jun Sou told him he wasn't, and at any rate that meant his gamble on the exchange had worked out. When Ten reaches Shin, he asks her if she was alright. She told him yes. Ten told Shin to have the Hi Hyou take the center and split the enemy into two halves. He and Kyou Kia would then take one side each and thoroughly annihilate the enemy ranks. She told him that plan might sound a bit forceful, but he could leave the details to her. She told him they had no choice but to rely on tactics to make up for the lost time. The Hi Shin Unit rejoiced over Ten's return. Ten then told Shin they absolutely must win the battle. Shin agreed. Ten then told Shin that didn't do anything to her. He told her he could tell just by her face. Having concluded the exchange, the Hi Shin Unit and Gai Mou Army separated and returned to their respective positions to begin the second days' worth of combat. Gai Mou himself returned to his reserve army's camp located deeper. While the Hi Shin Unit once again focused their attention on breaking through the 10,000 Wei soldiers before them.

With the return of Ten, the Hi Shin Unit managed to recover some of the ground lost from the blunder from the first day. As the sunset over the battlefield, the Hi Shin Unit was able to break through the enemy's outer defense line. At this moment, Ten ordered the Hi Shi Unit to withdraw, make camp and ready for the next day of battle.

During the night, Shin and Kyou Kai had a frank conversation. Shin apologized to Kyou Kai over his impulsive reaction over Ten's kidnapping. Kyou Kai contests that the plan that Ou hon has developed is extremely high risk and difficult to pull off. Shin surprises Kyou Kai by defending Ou Hon and announces that any opportunity that they have, they must seize it. They conclude by stating that the Choyu Campaign is the first step to becoming a Great General.

Before the third day of combat, the Hi Shin Unit had a strategy meeting to discuss Ten's proposal. There was some discord due to the high-risk nature of the plan, but Shin, seeing this as their only opportunity, concluded the meeting by acquiescing Ten's plan.

As battle erupted between the two opposing armies, Shin was naturally in the thick of it. He swept countless enemies away with effortless sweeps of his glaive. However, Kyou Kai, knowing that Shin had bigger fish to fry, began to defend him to allow him to conserve his strength for the duel to come.

Gai Mou charges Shin

Shin charging Gai Mou.

As the battle developed, Ten began to enact her strategy by shifting Kyou Kai and Garo to the flanks. Jun Sou reacts to this by reinforcing his left flank and calling out Gai Mou to lure in Shin. Jun sou reinforces Gai Mou's position with veteran cavalry squads, however, Shin penetrates this defense, and they begin their furious duel.

They exchange a flurry of blows, each striving to dominate the other, but they are evenly matched. They each receive superficial wounds, but this doesn't slow down the contest. At this moment, Ten orders Kyou Kai to disengage from the Gai Mou army and charge the Wei HQ, thus leaving Shin and the remaining members Hi Shin Unit surrounded. Gai Mou sees this as his chance, and he begins to overwhelm Shin with Shin carrying on fighting valiantly.

Suddenly reinforcements in the form of Ryuu Koku and his army arrive and crash into the Gai Mou army. Gai Mou expresses his surprise at this turn of events and his displeasure that Shin won't allow him to complete the duel. Shin informs Gai Mou that Ren Pa and Ou Ki never found him worthy enough to duel. Realizing that he is in a precarious position, and at the behest of Jun Sou, Gai Mou retreats. To the dismay of the Hi Shin Unit, Shin sees this as his window of opportunity, and he orders an advance on the Wei HQ.

Shin kills Rei Ou in front of Go Hou Mei

Shin kills Rei Ou of the Fire Dragons in front of Go Hou Mei and their escorts.

On the advance to the Wei HQ, Shin notices that it is burning, indicating victory. Suddenly Shin observes movement in the distance. Shin discovers Gou Hou Mei and Rei Ou, but he inadvertently slays Rei Ou due to Gou Hou Mei's trickery. Shin overbalances and falls off his horse, which allows Gou How Mei to escape.

Later that night, Shin meets with Tou and the Tou Army commanders. They discuss the finer points of the days battle and Tou informs the others that there will be a fortress constructed at Choyou and that kingdoms will be destroyed.

State of Ai Arc[]

Two months after the Choyou Campaign, Shin, Shou Sa, and Kyo Gai observes the work progress to transform this area into a fortress. Sanyou has received a massive influx of migrants and some of them will probably be transferred here for work or garrison. Sanyou and Choyou will become two resolute military outposts for drive a stake right through the state of Wei. A messenger informs him that Wei is launching an attack, they have already engaged Kyou Kai's unit.

Sometime after Sanyou and Choyou was handed over to royal harem faction. At Chiyoyou, Shin was upset that another 10,000 soldiers were taken away to be transferred to Tai Gen, a distant city even further north than Tonryuu, while 10,000 soldiers had already been transferred to Sanyou earlier.

Sometime later, the Hi Shin fought the soldiers of Wei at Choyou, after the latter had seen that 10,000 soldiers had been sent to Taigen. A report from general Tou informed them that the Queen Mother and Rou Ai declared independence at Taigen and formed the State of Ai.

Sometime later, Shin attends the ceremony that elevates Tou to become the second great general of Qin for his achievements in the decisive victory of Choyou, as well as the defense and construction efforts that followed. At this same ceremony, Ou Hon and Shin are promoted to 5000-Man Commander for defeating the fire dragons of Wei, Earl Shi and Rei Ou, as well as their continued defense of Choyou afterwards. Ryuu Koku reveals that Tou refused to allow Ou Hon to skip a rank and be promoted directly to general. Tou confirms and informs that the head of military affairs, Shou Hei Kun, was also against it. Tou explains that this rank is one where one must learn to stop relying on others while still being able to achieve results.

Since Ou Hon was attached to the Roku O Mi Army to help general Mou Bu against Chu's army, Tou attaches Shin to Ryuu Koku and assigns him to defend Choyou. Shin remembers his promise to become a general for Ei Sei's Coming of Age Ceremony next year.

It's the new year and Shin is hiding from Ryuu Koku, Kyou Kai finds him. Shin explains to Kyou Kai that he can't stand all the reprimands he gets from him concerning his defense of the Choyou but also the slowing down of the works under his direction.

Kyou Kai was also promoted to 3000-Man Commander at the ceremony. Ryuu Koku wants her to stop serving as a lieutenant in the Hi Shin, because it would mean that the Hi Shin unit would become an 8000-man unit. This is too much for the current rank of Shin, it doesn't make sense that the Kyou Kai unit would consider itself to be bound to his Hi Shin unit. Kyou Kai says that it will not become independent and will stay with Hi Shin unit until the end.

When the outer wall will be complete, the minimum requirements for defensive fort will be fulfilled and then they will be able to go on the offensive. Tou has already begun preliminary investigations into theirs next targets, En and Hoyou. It will be time to begin Wei conquest campaign.

While the Hi Shin unit is making good progress in their campaign to capture the cities of En and Hoyou, they receive a message from Shou Hei Kun. Ka Ryo Ten notices that the seal on the letter is broken and the messenger claims that he dropped it from the horse. The letter says that he wants them to take the road to Koku if they attack En and tells them to pay attention to the time, after En comes Kyou, Sou and finally, Kou. Shin thinks about Ei Sei's coming-of-age ceremony, which is only ten days away.

During the Coming of Age Ceremony, Sei informs Ryo Fui that an army capable of stopping the rebels is already on the march. Hi Shin unit joined Sai's soldiers and crossed the Wei River, near Kanyou, with the help of vessels already prepared for them.

Han O Ki learns that already 3000 soldiers have crossed the river and send Wa Tegi to stop them. Shin takes command of the vanguard in order to reach the shore and secure their foothold. Wa Tegi leaves 3000 of his soldiers to take care of the river and goes to join Han O Ki. Sai's soldiers and the Hi Shin unit succeeded in crossing the river, but it cost them 1500 men from death or desertion. This made the rebels' subjugation army composed of Sai's soldiers and Hi Shin Unit men numbered 9500 men. Shin explained to general Ba Jin, commanders of the subjugation army, that he had taken only 1000 of his men. He was in the middle of a campaign against Wei and his local commander Ryuu Koku would not allow him to come. So, he left enough of his soldiers and Kyou Kai Unit behind there not to slow down Ryuu Koku and left without his permission. The Deputy commander is general Shou Kaku, Heki's friend, he was a 1000-Man Commander from Dakan Plains. Shin reveals that if he was the first to know about the conspiracy while he was posted in Wei territory, it is because Ka Ryo Ten managed to crack the coded message from Shou Hei Kun. The subjugation army arrives at Kanyou while a part of Hanoki's army has just entered the city from a gate opened from the inside. Shin charges towards the city but Han O Ki sends half his forces, 15,000 men, to intercept them. The elite personal soldiers under Shou Hei Kun coming from inside Kanyou kill Hanoki's soldiers and come out from the opened gate. Shin notices that two other gates have been opened and Han O Ki and Han Roki enter the city. Shin and a part of the Hi Shin unit manage to enter Kanyou in order to save Ei Sei's young children. He notices that the massacres have already started inside the city. Contrary to Tonryuu where he failed, this time he knows the city, he guides his men to the palace. While he asks the location of the royal harem to one of his guards, he is stabbed by surprise, they were in the Ryo Fui's faction. Den Yuu protects him from a volley of arrows during the ambush.

While You was trying to slow down the horsemen who were chasing Kou and Rei, Shin killed the horsemen who were about to murder her and cut Han Roki's arm. When Han Roki's reinforcements see Shin's soldiers coming, they abandon him and run away. In fury by the massacres perpetrated by Han Roki, he knocks him out with a punch. They must capture as many officers as possible so that they can prove that Ryo Fui is the real culprit behind this rebellion. Kou and Rei join You. Shin talks to Rei, Ei Sei's daughter and tells her that he is the best friend of her father.

Shin gets his wounds treated and says that another group has managed to secure the crown prince, Fuso. He will go out and let Hai Rou and Kyo Gai take care of these three, the enemy soldiers inside the city walls must not succeed in entering Kanyou.

Ten and the army of subjugation defend the city with difficulty because of their numerical inferiority. As Shin has just come out of a gate, a trumpet sounds, it is the army of Shou Hei Kun who has arrived.

He has in his ranks Kai Oku, Heki, Shou Bun Kun and Mou Ki. Shou Hei Kun leads a charge at the rear of the Wa Tegi army and Shou Hei Kun's elite black cavalry corps, the Hyou Shiga, has come out of the city to help him. Mou Ki understands that Shou Hei Kun wants to execute the "Hourai" stratagem and at the same time, Ka Ryo Ten understands the same thing and creates a wall of soldiers forward. The Hourai strategy consists of creating walls of soldiers to the left, right and rear of an enemy commander in order to trap him, followed by a surgical strike in the center to remove the enemy's head. Shou Hei Kun kills Wa Tegi without any difficulty.

After the victory, Shin asks why Shou Hei Kun chose to betray Ryo Fui. He answers him that he is a man who also dreams of the unification of China and thinks that Ei Sei is a king capable of realizing this dream. Shin asks Shou Bun Kun what it means now that Ei Sei is officially crowned, and that Ryo Fui will soon be locked up. Shou Bun Kun answers him, with tears in his eyes, that after 9 years struggle against Ryo Fui, it ends in his majesty's complete victory.

Hi Shin unit returns to the campaign against Wei and Ka Ryo Ten is scolded by Ryuu Koku. Shin stays some time in Kanyou to recover from his wound.

Kokuyou Campaign Arc[]

Shin and his unit were assigned to the Kan Ki Army, in order to seize the Region of Kokuyou, which was supposed to become the entry point for the Qin forces during their invasion of Zhao. But they did not perform so well at the beginning of the battle and were lacking behind. But with combined effort of each member, they were able to make up for their mistakes. This included an assassination attempt on the enemy commander by Kyou Kai and an example of strength through willpower by En.

On the third day, Ten leads the Hi Shin Unit to a point, to pressure the Zhao defenses on the central hill, which could shake up the entire battlefield. Hours pass and the days ends with Kan Ki doing nothing. That night, Shin stops an enraged Ten from leashing out on Na Ki and asks the Kan Ki commander on why Kan Ki wasted the entire day and the opportunity to attack the Zhao. Na Ki replies that while Kan Ki may come off as fooling around, it could possibly that he sees something else on the battlefield, but Shin remains confused while telling Ten to calm down.

The next day and fourth day of battle, Ba'In gives Shin a message from Kan Ki to keep fighting the combined Ba Tei and Ryuu Tou's armies. And that he will send reinforcements to aid them. Kei Sha, Zhao Commander-in-Chief and his personal unit attack him.

When they returned behind their own lines, they discovered, that Kan Ki had raided the villages of the civilians around Koku You. This caused a fight between Shin and Kan Ki. This caused, that Shin and Kyou Kai did not receive any reward or promotion after the campaign.

Bureaucrats Job Arc[]

Mou Ten and his Gaku Ka Unit was sent to take over for the Hi Shin Unit in defending the Kokuyou region. So, the Hi Shin Unit started with new recruitment and training, to be better prepared and have soldiers, on a stronger individual field. Then a messenger arrived and recalled Shin and Ten to Kanyou, while the Hi Shin Unit should remain in their position and proceed with their training. In Kanyou, they attended a secret tactical meeting with Ou Hon and Mou Ten. There they are informed about their next target, which has to remain a secret. Ei Sei tells them, that they have to raise up to the rank of a General during this campaign.

Western Zhao Invasion Arc[]

Shin and the Hi Shin veterans continue training the new rookies and soldiers of the 8000-Men unit in the 11th year in the reign of the king and the new year. Shin asks Ten if there’s no news from Shou Hei Kun and Qin high command regarding the overall strategy in attacking Zhao. Aside from a message from the end of the year telling them to increase the pace of training their new soldiers. Days later, Shin is helping train Kan To and the other new rookies of the Hi Shin infantry as he strikes them suddenly a message comes for him and Ten from Shou Hei Kun. It states that they need to head to Kanyou tomorrow.

Shin and Ten arrive at the capital’s inner city along with Mou Ten and Ou Hon, who were also summoned. The group meet the Chief of Military Affairs and Shou Bun Kun. And They make their way to the Chief’s private building and meet up with Kai Oku and Mou Ki. Once assembled everyone receives the news that the Qin Military will be attacking Gyou in their next invasion against the Zhao. But Shin, clueless, asks where that is again. Mou Ten helps him out as he points it out on the tabletop map. Shin, fully realizing it, expresses his shock once again but is silenced by Mou Ki as Ou Hon and Mou Ten contemplate the strategy. As the two respective commanders express their views and opinions on the plan, Shou Hei Kin elaborates on why the three of them were summoned. It wasn’t because of a lack of faith in the strategy but because the Qin Three’s individual units will play an important role in what’s to come which surprises Shin and the rest.

Shou Hei Kun elaborates further that the trio’s ability to make appropriate judgement on the fly will be crucial in the upcoming war with the assumption of Ri Boku’s machinations and hidden assets hindering Qin. That something beyond their expectations is guaranteed to occur on the battlefield and to that end the trio’s respective units that have been independent since their early days will be hugely essential. But the Chief warns Shin and the two that if they abuse or misuse that right without being aware of the overall meaning behind the entire strategy, they are bound to make fatal decisions. Mou Ten replies thus the reason behind their summoning as to drill them on the strategy.

Shou Bun Kun adds that though the three may be 5000-Man Commanders for now, the military veteran and the company of tacticians expect greater results from the young commanders than the other generals. Kai Oku tells them that the expectations shouldn’t be just fulfilled but also the absolute requirement that needs to be met. Should they fail to do even that, then the attack on Gyou will end in failure. Before they delve into the full extent of the strategy, Ei Sei enters the room. As Ou Hon and Mou Ten immediately bow, Shin follows them at the last second as he remembers the Qin King’s title, but Sei tells them that there’s no need to kneel and he would like them to listen on equal terms.

Ei Sei tells Shin and the two that the attack of Gyou will be a battle unprecedented in not only its importance, but also with the prospective of how harsh and brutal the fighting will be. But even so, it is nothing compared to the many future trails that stand in the way of Unifying China as the speech. Sei tells the trio that they and their respective strength will be required further down the path as well and that the three of them must make their names roar across the lands in the battle and elevate themselves to the rank of Generals. Surprised by the speech, the Qin king tells them that must also not die there. As Mou Ten and Ou Hon bow their heads in gratitude, Shin hugs the two underneath his arms while reassuring Ei Sei that the three are going to defeat the Zhao so hard they won’t know what hit them with Sei leaving it in his hands once again. Before he and Ou Hon can get into a fight, Ten asks the tacticians and Sei who exactly will be the Commander-in-Chief of this campaign of difficulty.

Days later, having completed their training in the last few months, Shin and the Hi Shin Unit gather with other military armies and units as they get ready for the Gyou Campaign. The rookie Hi Shin soldiers start getting nervous about the pressure of so many soldiers but So Sui manages to calm them down as he tells to simply remember their training while reassuring them that they are now official soldiers which uplifts their worries. Meanwhile, both Shou Sa and Suu Gen note that they haven’t seen an army as large as this since the Coalition Army’s invasion years ago. Shou Sa and Suu Gen wonder who exactly the Commander-in-Chief will be for such a huge assemble of armies. He then asks En who it might be, but En tells him that he doesn’t as he tried to ask Shin about it, but he didn’t say anything ever since coming back from Kanyou with Ten. They speculate that since High command is going so far as to hide the commander’s name for fear of information leaks means that the upcoming campaign is going to a crazy one.

Shou Hei Kun then steps forward on the top of the podium and announces that the Qin Military will begin its invasion of Zhao’s western lands. While this shocks everyone present, Shin looks on in silence. The Chief continues his speech that the battle will mark the beginning of their long-awaited all-out war against Zhao, which has been a constant thorn to their side for years. But he tells the Qin soldiers that they must not allow themselves to yield even a single step as their victory is assured and that they will raise the flags of Qin high above Zhao’s lands. Shou Hei Kun moves on with the announcement of who will lead this campaign, with the Hi Shin soldiers and others becoming anxious.

The first is Kan Ki of the Kan Ki Army and the next is Yo Tan Wa who will be leading her army of mountain warriors. Bajio and Tajifu arrive with the other tribes and stand along the Hi Shin Unit’s soldiers.

Shin greets his old comrades in arms and tells them that he’s excited to be fighting by their side once again. Bajio tells Shin that he’s grown teller again and Tajifu shows that he has learned a little bit of the language of the central plainers which surprises Shin as he laughs at the mountain man’s accent. But the reunion is cut short by the Kan Ki Army soldiers’ agitation at the sight of the mountain warriors as they question the two commanders’ status. Once again, the Chief continues and tells the soldiers that the two will serve as the commanders of their respective armies, but not as the commanders of the overall invasion force. That role falls to another. Due to the grand scale that this war is to become, they will be sending off three armies and the general of the third army will be the Commander-In-Chief. The general is revealed to be Ou Sen of the Ou Sen Army which stuns everyone present aside from Shin, Ou Hon, and Mou Ten.

The Ou Sen soldiers cheer on as they drown the area with their cries. En asks Shin does that mean, and Shin responds that Ou Sen, Kan Ki, and Yo Tan Wa will be leading a joint invasion with their three armies.

The armies of Qin and their mountain tribesmen march through the streets of Kanyou as the citizens cheer them on. Ten and Heki greet each other as they meet each other. Catching up, they both share their respective reservations on Ou Sen’s appointment. Ten shares with Heki on what Shin and she were told about. In a flashback to the prior meeting with the tacticians, they are told that Ou Sen’s military talent was acknowledged by the late Ko Shou of the Six Great Generals, who was the only pure Strategist and was rumored to be the mastermind behind their powerful tactics. Shou Hei Kun reveals that it was Ko Shou that taught him about miliary strategies and warfare, and he remembers his former teacher mentioning that as far as Ou Sen’s abilities are concerned, when it comes to his acumen, he could be considered an equal to the members of the Six Greats.

Meanwhile, Shin is waiting in the middle of the march as the Bi Hei and the Hi Shin soldiers notice. Shin apologizes for making him come all this way, the person in question is revealed to be Ei Sei. The Hi Shin soldiers are surprised by his presence as they all instantly kneel and greet the Qin king but Shin orders them to carry on the march or they’ll back the procession, which annoys Sei’s bodyguard, but surprises Ei Sei. He was sure that Shin would be nervous with the importance and scale of the campaign, but Shin shows that he was already prepared as the real critical wars were going to come sooner or later as it won’t be the last one either. And that things always get hectic anyway.

Shin, changing the subject, asks Sei if he brought the “item” with him and Sei responds that it’s coming now with Bi Hei and the others wondering what their talking about. A group of soldiers ride towards them as the largest one is carrying a massive podao, albeit with visible difficulty.

Shin Wields Ou Ki's Glaive

Shin finally taking up Ou Ki's Podao for the first time since the Monstrous Bird's death.

As they come closer, the large weapon towers over Shin, which startles him a little, with the Hi Shin soldiers looking in awe. Kyou Kia suddenly turns her back as she senses the weapon. Bi Hei, Taku Kei, Kou, Den Yuu, and Den Ni look on with equal expressions of, the Qin soldier carrying the item hands it over to Shin while telling him to brace himself by holding it properly. Shin immediately feels its heaviness and the item is shown to be the late General Ou Ki's Glaive, as Sei, Bi Hei and the others look on.

Remembering the Great General's final moments, Bi Hei, Kei, who are both crying, and the other veterans cheer in a shout of moral. Ei Sei asks Shin how it feels to have it in his hands again with Shin responding that so many things happened at the time which overwhelmed him, so he didn't notice back then. But now, after feeling it in his hands again, it really is incredibly heavy and warm. Shin then remembers General Ou Ki's final words to him as he understands the meaning of them. Suu Gen asks him if he thinks he can use properly and Shin, laughing, says that he might get swung around and has to slowly get used to it.

En comes to see what's coming them but is surprised to see Sei, and with that Shin gets moving. Before he heads out, Ei Sei tells Shin that he will be awaiting for the news of his success and Shin responds that with his podao will be the ones to claim Ri Boku's head as the Hi Shin Unit heads out.

Kingdom Chap 500

The Qin Army heads out in the eleventh year of the king's regin.

In the eleven year of reign, the Qin army of 200,000 combined Ou Sen Army, Kan Ki Army, and the Yo Tan Wa Army set out for the lands of Zhao. On the march, Shin is riding in front of his men and enjoying the feeling of holding General Ou Ki's podao but En, who is looking for Ten, asks him where she is. An annoyed Shin tells him that she is at the rear.

At the rear, Ten speaks with Yo Tan Wa to discuss about how they’ll fight together in the campaign and asks the mountain king to allow freedom of movement for the Hi Shin Unit as they’re the type that needs a certain degree of it to exhibit their true capabilities. And that any plans center around them wouldn’t be the best, but Yo Tan Wa is already fully aware of that and tells Ten that there’s no need to worry which surprises her. All the same, Yo Tan Wa says that all of them have grown into quite the figures and thinks back to their first meeting as it was just the three of Shin, Sei, and Ten who came to seek her help years ago during Sei Kyou's Rebellion.

Ten, smiling, remembers but corrects the mountain king that it was the four of them with Heki being there, too. Back then, Ten couldn’t have imagined her life taking such a drastic turn and assumes the same for Shin and Sei but Yo Tan Wa isn’t so sure. When she first saw Ei Sei’s eyes all those years ago, she was inclined to believe that he would come this far. As Ten is about to agree she cuts herself as she sees the Kan Ki Army’s rearguard and wonders what they’re doing as they left such a big gap before following them into the north passage, and they caught up. Ten chastise them on their slowness but Yo Tan Wa disagrees that it isn’t because the Kan Ki Army is slow, it’s that the Hi Shin Unit, serving the as the vanguard for the mountain king’s army, is simply faster.

Yo Tan Wa tells Ten that she shouldn’t be so tense as she and Shou Bun Kun have been the ones to be on edge since the start of the campaign. When you act unnaturally anxious like that, it’s guaranteed to be passed down onto your soldiers as well. And be noticed by your enemy.

If the Zhao were to quickly notice their feint and move to instead fortify Kantan’s defenses, then it will become nigh impossible for them to get anywhere near the capital or even Gyou. In other words, the very phase of this battle will be how long they can keep Ri Boku in the dark as to their true target of Gyou. It is only until they switch headings from Kokuyou to Gyou that time and speed will become of the essence. And until that moment comes, they shouldn’t give off any impressions of being overly twitchy. Which is why Ten must put on airs as if this were another battle like any other for Ri Boku is their opponent after all. Ten thanks Yo Tan Wa for the advice.

When they reach Kinan, Commander-in-Chief Ou Sen calls for a war council, and Shin is the last one to arrive after getting a little lost on his way to the Headquarters's campground.

During the siege of Retsubi, the Hi Shin Unit and the Yo Tan Wa Army is given the order to break through the city and open the path of the Qin Army. While the Yo Tan Wa Amry is fighting on the walls and tries to open the gate for the Hi Shin Unit.

During the Battle at Shukai Plains Shin and the Hi Shin Unit were initially placed on the center. Later, he is summoned by Ou Sen and the General tasked him to take 500 of his fastest riders sneak on to the left-wing. His mission is to kill Ki Sui, the commander of the Zhao's right wing. Shin, Ten, Kyou Kai, and the Hi Shin officers arrive at the battlefield. They take in the sight of the Ma Kou Army dominating the Ki Sui Army, the same army that gave them so much trouble a year prior.

But it failed when Ri Boku went and killed Ma Kou, disrupting operations and recalling him in the center.

Then Ou Sen commanded him again, this time taking the Hi Shin Unit to assist the right-wing. But they were hampered by 2 of Rin Shou Jo's best Generals, Gyou'un and Chou Ga Ryuu, Ba Nan Ji, Ri Boku's subordinate and Gaku Ei, Kei Sha's officer. He slew Gaku Ei during one of the encounters.

Another setback was suffered when both A Kou, the commanding General of the right, and Ou Hon were incapacitated, both respective units temporarily promoting him as commanding officer of the right-wing. He fought and killed Chou Ga Ryuu then took the unit charging when the Zhao left-wing collapsed. Shin pushes through and duels Hou Ken until he kills the thorn in their side. But exhaustion took a toll in his body, collapsed and lost consciousness. He saw himself in a stairway, with Hyou. Despite Kyou Kai trying to interfere, he seems to forget something, until he remembered what they want to be, so Kyou Kai threw his soul back, reviving him.

After the war he left for Fuuri, got a new house with the help of Den Yuu's friends. But his promotion was hit by a roadblock, him lacking a last name, which Shin decides to use Ri as his last name. Five months later, he, alongside Ou Hon and Mou Ten, was promoted to General in a long due over the ceremony.

Zhao Crisis Arc[]

One month later, he and his newly built army, now with a whole new level of strength, set off for Gyou once again. But with Zhao army's tight defense and their few numbers, they cannot get a chink on the armor.

Shiyuu Conflict Arc[]

The Hi Shin Unit was having difficulty on the front lines as it struggled to advance at the same pace as the other armies, especially the Gyoku Hou Army and Gaku Ka Army both of which had grown stronger with their new respective talents - the 3000-Man Commander A Ka Kin and the Gaku Ka Army's new lieutenant, Ai Sen.

The loss of Deputy Infantry Commander Shou Sa in the previous war was keenly felt in the command of the infantry. Hai Rou is still not able to equal his predecessor for now. But even more worrying, Kyou Kai is bedridden since she used his secret technique to save Shin. She was unable to command her unit of 5,000 soldiers.

Kyou Kai confess that she is in love with Shin and that the use of the forbidden technique has reduced her life expectancy to that of a regular person. She tells him that she doesn't want their relationship to change because she thinks that they survived to all the deadly experiences because they were focused only on the battlefield ahead.

Nature Of Humanity Arc[]

Months after Kan Ki's death, Qin's loss in at Gian and Kan Pishi's suicide, Shin, Kyou Kai, and Kyou Rei travel to Jouto Village to celebrate Bi Hei and Tou Bi's marriage with the rest of the Hi Shin soldiers. During the celebration, Shin reconnects with the villagers after years away as they all express their individual greetings to him while expressing their happiness at the sight of him as a fine man and adult. He also meets his old caretakers, the Ri Family, as they bring a hunted deer as a present. At the dawn after the first night of Bi Hei’s and Tou Bi's wedding, Shin takes Kyou Kai to visit his former home with him and talks about his childhood spent with Hyou. There, Shin asks Kyou Kai to marry him after Unifying China. Kyou Kai tells him that it’s not that she doesn't want to but admits that she is so afraid of losing him and reminded him that what she said before during her confession to him and stated that a promise like that would make both of them weak and distracted. But Shin tells her that he doesn't agree with her and assures her that on the contrary of what she believes, the promise would make them stronger. Kai asks him to give her time to think properly about his proposal and he agrees to that while telling her he will await her answer patiently.
