The Battle of Hango was a major battle fought between the Ou Sen Army, Yo Tan Wa Army, Hi Shin Unit, Gyoku Hou Army and Qin Northeastern Army against the Ri Boku Army and Shi Ba Shou Army during the Hango Campaign in 232 B.C.

Location[]

The battle takes place in a wide area of plains near the city of Hango, located to the west of Gian.

Background[]

First northern Zhao Invasion[]

Qin[]

King Ei Sei ordered the government under Shou Bun Kun and Shou Hei Kun to plan a second invasion following the failed first invasion under Commander-in-Chief Kan Ki.

As preparation for the upcoming invasion, Shou Hei Kun planned to assemble a united Army, consisting of the Hi Shin Unit and the Qin Northeastern Army, under the temporary command of General Shin at Tai Gen with the mission of capturing Roumou. Following the capture of Roumou the united Army met up at the Seida Plains with the Ou Sen Army, which was stationed at Atsuyo, the Yo Tan Wa Army, and the Gyoku Hou Army, which were both stationed at Bujou and Heiyou.

Another Army under the command of Great General Tou was moved to Gyou with the mission of keeping watch on the borders with Wei and Chu as well as the Zhao Army at Buan.

Shou Hei Kun tried to hide the movements of the Qin military by giving all high-ranking officers in the invasion force the information that Gian was again the target of the invasion. Only Commander-in-Chief Ou Sen was told the real target of the invasion.

Zhao[]

Great General Ri Boku is tasked with the defense of Zhao and anticipates a second invasion from Qin under the command of Ou Sen and Yo Tan Wa with the target of Hango. He prepared Zhao for this invasion for the most time since the Battle of Hika. He intended to let another general take command of the battlefield as Qin knew his strengths and weaknesses. For this, he asked Shi Ba Shou to participate in the upcoming battle personally. Other preparations he made were the assembling of the following armies at Gian:

Beginning of the second Northern Invasion[]

The Hi Shin Unit captures Roumou in one day with the aid and support of the Northeastern Qin Army. Following that they met up as planned at Seida Plains with the Ou Sen Army, Yo Tan Wa Army and Gyouku Hou Army. There Ou Sen assumed command of the united armies. Ou Sen explained to the other high-ranking officers that the true target of the invasion was Hango. The following day the armies set forth for Hango.

Ri Boku, following the information that the Qin main Army started moving on Hango, moved with the assembled armies at Gian to Hango. On arrival the Zhao Army take position in front of the city having it defended by the right wing Ganmon Army.

Story[]

Opening Stage[]

The battle is opened on the Qin right wing by a frontal charge of the Hi Shin Unit at the, on the Zhao left wing stationed, Gian Army. Following that Yo Tan Wa orders the attack of her own army on the Qin left wing onto the Shun Sui Ju Army, Ba Nan Ji Army and Ganmon Army lines defending the Zhao right wing.

Bait[]

In the center the A Kou Army makes the first move. They target the army under Gaku Shou but during the charge A Kou discovers Ri Boku in a vulnerable position overseeing the central battlefield. Knowing that this is a trap and Ri Boku is baiting him, he still decides to personally attack Ri Boku with 300 cavalry men while his main army continues its charge. Fuuon sees A Kou breaking off his Army and attacks the flank of the 300 men targeting Ri Boku. Fuuon and his soldiers are able to stop A Kou's charge and allow Gaku Shou to encircle A Kou and his 300 men. Gaku Shou personally enters Fuuons duel with A Kou. The A Kou Army uses its reserves to directly target Ri Boku, who is still in a vulnerable position, but are intercepted by Ri Boku's personal guarded by Fu Tei. A Kou is losing his duel but him getting focused by Zhao's generals allows his army to get to Ri Boku's position who has to retreat.

The Hi Shin Unit gets orders from A Kou to support their chase of the retreating Ri Boku. Ri Shin takes 10k of his soldiers to chase after Ri Boku which endangers his armies position if Ou Hon doesn't reinforces the Hi Shin Units missing soldiers with his own. Ou Hon reinforces the Hi Shin Unit and allows Ka Ryo Ten to leave her position on the right flank to support Shin. Shin has caught up to Ri Boku who retreats into an Earthwork Fortress. Shin plans to capture the fortress and kill Ri Boku. During the siege Ri Boku confirms to Fu Tei that the target was Shin from the beginning to draw him away from the ongoing battle, With Shin not influencing the outcome of the battle, Shi Ba Shou can freely destroy the Ou Sen Army.

Seika Attacks[]

Following Ri Boku's retreat Ji Aga, Kan Saro and Shi Ba Shou move up their armies. Ji Aga's Army meets the Sou'Ou Army and Kan Saro reinforces Gaku Shou's fight with A Kou's Army, who got reinforced by 20k soldiers of Ou Sen's Main Army. Shi Ryou and Ji Aga meet to duel and Den Ri Mi moves up to use the situation to kill Ji Aga. Shin Kaku Gaku and Duke Da Rin wounds Ji Aga but Den Ri Mi gets wounded, and Duke Da Rin get killed by Shi Ba Shou as he moves his Army around the Den Ri Mi Army to focus Ou Sen's Main Army. The Kan Saro Army reinforces the Ji Aga Army after moving over from the other battlefield.

Qin's Right Wing[]

Shin captured the Earthwork Fortress, but Ri Boku escaped through a tunnel. Shin and his soldiers return back to the right wing to free up the Gyoku Hou Army. Ou Hon sends 20k of his own soldiers under Kan Jou to attack the flank of the main Shi Ba Shou Army to slow down or stop their attack on Ou Sen. Ou Hon cannot move his whole army as he has to defend the flank of the exposed Hi Shin Unit until Shin and his soldiers return.

Qin's Left Wing[]

On You Tan Wa's wing the battle is almost a stalemate. Both sides have heavy casualties as every general on both sides are fighting without holding back soldiers. The Mera Tribe finds an opening and gets pass the Ganmon Armies defense lines. They charge directly in direction of city.

Shi Ba Shou attacks Ou Sen[]

Ou Sen's commander try to disengage their armies from their own battles to return to Ou Sen's side to defend him from Shi Ba Shou's advancing army. A Kou is able to flee from Gaku Shou after a duel in which he got a heavy hit against his back and Gaku Shou lost an eye. Shi Ryou, Shin Kaku Gaku and San Shuu cover for Sou'Ou to leaving by entering a fight with both Ji Aga and Kan Saro. In that fight Ji Aga and Shin Kaku Gaku die and San Shuu and Shi Ryou are heavily wounded. Following their own battles A Kou, Sou'Ou and Den Ri Mi from the Qin side and Kan Saro and Gaku Shou from the Zhao side move with their armies to the front where Shi Ba Shou slowly advances through the defense lines of Ou Sen's HQ.

A Kou and Sou'Ou are the first to arrive before Shi Ba Shou, but they get engaged by Gaku Shou and Kan Saro who are right behind them. Ou Sen's commander see that they lost the battle because their lines are collapsing, and their HQ is in danger of getting captured by Shi Ba Shou. A Kou is ready to sacrifice himself to cover for the retreat of Ou Sen as Gaku Shous slash to his back has mortally wounded him and he will not survive if he retreats. In the following dual Shi Ba Shou slays A Kou.

Ou Sen Retreats[]

Even with A Kou's sacrifice Ou Sen is not safe yet as his Main Army is almost surrounded. Sou'Ou is evacuating Ou Sen through a crack Den Ri Mi creates with his armies' remnants. After Den Ri Mi helped Ou Sen retreat, he and his soldiers get attacked by Kan Saro and annihilated. Den Ri Mi dies from his wounds before Kan Saro can kill him.

A detachment of the Gyoku Hou Army under A Ka Kin can save the remnants of Ou Sen's HQ, but almost all of Ou Sen Main armies soldiers die to the Seika Army as Shi Ba Shou, Kan Saro and Gaku Shin have them surrounded. Shi Ryou is captured by the Seika Army.

Ou Hon and Kan Jou reunite their armies on the right wing and cover the retreat of the Hi Shin Unit under heavy loses.

The Mera Tribe reinforced the Enshu Tribe beginning attacking the city of Hango in a siege. Led by Kitari, the mountain forces break into the city and begin looking for any Qin prisoners. Meanwhile, hearing of the attack, Heki leads the prisoners into a revolt against the Zhao but are soon overwhelmed.

Before they're wiped out, Kitari and the Mera Tribe rescue them. Having accomplished their objective of saving the prisoners and the other objective of capturing and holding Hango becoming impossible with the loss of the Ou Sen Army, they retreat from the city

Aftermath[]

Zhao[]

Seika's losses are heavy as they collect the bodies of their fallen soldiers in order to send back to Seika and their families.

The victory against the Qin increases Ri Boku's popularity and political influence further. Kaku Kai's faction, which feels endangered by Ri Boku's newly won power, increases hostility between the two factions.

Qin[]

The Qin Military's losses are massive with over half of the Ou Sen Army destroyed in battle. Following their loss, Sou'Ou surrenders to Kan Saro and offers his head to the Seika General in order to see Shi Ryou's remains, but she is revealed to be alive having survived her wounds after being treated by Kan Saro. The Seika General then releases them both and Sou'Ou swears that he will repay him someday.

The second loss in the war for unification leads to a rift in the Qin government about the future of this war. Shou Hei Kun faced with devastating losses offers his life to Ei Sei but the Qin King refuses.

Faced with the loss of large parts of his army and two of his trusted personal retainers in A Kou and Den Ri Mi, Ou Sen steps down from his position as the Third Great of the Six Great Generals.

Due to this, the implementation of major reforms known as the "Three Pillars" began.
